Help! Fleas Have Taken Over

in Hive Pets2 years ago

Looking for advice!

Does any of you have a tips to get rid of fleas before I burn the house down? I am not joking.

The weather is getting warmer and the fleas get sort of gone crazy. It’s like fleas fest and they are happily running around my kittens. I remember though, last year my mom told me the same thing except I wasn’t home and couldn’t take care of the kitten properly.

Since last night, I’ve been doing my best to save the kitten from dying. The fleas just got really bad. My cousin and I tried some home solution and even special medication for the kitten and the mother. But, it doesn’t seem to be working and we... are almost giving up. This morning, we gave them bath and applied some medications.

I also read that the house can also be the cause for the sudden fleas infestation. So, my mom and I have done some cleaning, sprinkled salt and made sure that every carpet was cleaned thoroughly. But I also lose hope because the interweb said, the eggs of the fleas can remain dormant until the weather gets hot and they’ll have their summer party.

I took this picture when I was sitting at the cafe waiting for my coffee

The craziest part is that it already follows me everywhere I go. When I got coffee this morning, I noticed the fleas were jumping around and my partner even joked, it’s my pets now. After bathing the kitten I feel traumatized and even felt like all the fleas swarming around my body and so yikes.

I also went to nearby vet but they closed down today. But, I’ll try my luck again tomorrow. So, if you have any solutions other than the ones I tried, feel free to comment and I’ll try it.

Sort:

Here's a not nice tip (for me, it wasn't, but it worked), but my mom gave it to me when I adopted my first kitten, and he had a lot of fleas.
Firstly, use liquid dishwashing soap (yes, using this is really weird) and put it all over his body, the fleas die immediately. Since he is a kitten, he can't be medicated or put on flea powder yet. Just clean the kitten well with warm water and remove all the liquid soap. I recommend putting it around the neck first so they don't get on his head. And give him a quick bath.
After that, you need to fumigate your house, but that is dangerous for the kittens. So they should be somewhere else.
This is the only way I could get rid of the pesky fleas.

Honestly, none of the methods the vet recommended worked, just what my mom told me.

I read about dishwashing soap too but was hesitant about using it. But I am willing to try because the poor kittens are fighting for their lives. I wonder where they hide tbh, my kitten roam around in a lot of places and we normally don't have too many furnitures or sofas. What do you use to fumigate your living areas?

We hired an expert to fumigate. He used a chemical that was good for the environment and not as toxic as others. I don't know the composition.

Oh, my goodness! Poor little kittens Mac, I don't know much about kittens and less about fleas on them, sorry, but I do know that you have to be very careful because they transmit diseases very delicate , I hope that as soon as you can you take the kittens to the vet, I will pray that they will be saved 🙏🏼, be very careful Mac. 🫂💕

I read when the kitten have fleas infestation, they will get anemic. Two of them already died. I feel sorry for them and it's why I wonder if anyone knows the best way to get rid of them other than the stuff I've tried.

Oh my God, poor little Macs, maybe what they have done is right, it's just that their immune systems are too weak to withstand the infection.

I suggest you buy them a spot-on treatment. It is available in clinics.

We already did and it doesn't seem to be working.

Have you tried giving all of them the spot-on treatment? Cause if you only give the kittens, there is a possibility that the fleas coming from the other cats in your house will just transfer to the kittens. Better to treat them all. Also, I would suggest for you bath them with medicated shampoo, it helps!

Yep, we brought the mother to vet this morning. So, hopefully this will be solved in the coming days.

I commend you for reading the post and your great response. I for one have never had cats and when I had dogs I never had a problem with fleas or other pests so I didn't have an answer for this request for help. Regards @macchiata hopefully this solution will help you!

Thanks for checking out.

me too! we did the best we could.

For sure you can still save them
