「 How many cats is too many? 」

Whenever I tell people I have over 10 cats, they all get surprised. In our house, we currently house 10 little munchkins. It all really started with just one and grew to 4 then grew to 12 and shrink, and the cycle repeats.
In our house, the cats live freely as if they’re the owner of the place. They have many places to play, to sleep or to lounge around. During these past few months, many things have happened to the cat. We lost some of our cats but also some of them were adopted by friends and families. Still, despite all that, we now have 10 cats, ruling over the house.
Recently, one of my friends returned the cat to our house because she’s tired of taking care of the cat. I mean, cats can get costly and I dare say, it’s as costly as raising a child. In our house, we spend about 15kg of dry food in a month for 10 cats and we sometimes add wet food into the mixture of their meal. So, give and take it's about 20kg of food in a month.
We also spend about 50kg of litter each month and then there’s miscellaneous things such as their medication or certain treatment for their skin problems. So, I can imagine that number is pretty steep each month just to spend on taking care of these cats.
But, at one point, my mom and I thought about not having the cats around the house. I mean, we wanted to give all of them up for adoption. The thing is, the house would be even more empty without them. For now, having the cats around, they could help us act as a guard. They even make the house even livelier because they will occupy the empty rooms and we’ll know it’s not going to be empty.
There’s not a day when our house isn’t filled with shenanigans. They are always doing something and always playful. However, some of them live outside the house and only get back during their meal times. They know exactly when to return, which is around 6 AM, 12PM and later around 6 PM during their dinner time. Once they are well-fed, they are less likely bothering my mother and I. In fact, if they are so well-fed, they would just lay down in one of their favorite spots all around the house.
I haven’t talked about them for a while because there were just too many things happening. I even brought Cici, the eldest to a vet recently and she was also in for grooming time. The last time she was properly groomed was quite many moons ago and especially after my father passed, she was a bit unkept. So, about last month, I took her to be groomed and properly cleaned.
For the kittens, I typically take care of myself because we have a small basin and can only accommodate until a cat becomes junior. Once they are a year old, we typically bring them to a groomer and have them properly clean once every 2 months.
As it is in rotation, it also doesn’t break my wallet taking care of them. I think having a healthy cat will also save us in the long term. Vet visits can be so expensive and it’s best to actually take care of them so they don’t get sick easily which require more vet visits. The last time I brought my cat to a vet was when Mio suffered a brain injury and got a stroke. That one cost me an arm and leg 😂 you know, maybe there should be general insurance for cats, a cheaper monthly plan because just one visit is a lot more expensive than a typical physician.
So, that’s the update from my munchkins. I have a lot of them now and I might as well be a cat lady hahaha.
I have deeply loved cats since I was born. From that moment on, the cat that was at home took care of me. Then my grandmother said, ‘If you can't take care of them, you shouldn't have pets,’ and it wasn't until I was 23 that I started having cats. Several years have passed, and I've had cats for 24 years now. I love them! Right now, I have Cata and Tony, my babies and the kings of the house.
Ten cats may be a lot, but only from the point of view of keeping them well, vet, food, litter, etc. But when it comes to love, there's no number. Besides, no other animal brings the positive vibes that they do. They're magical and wonderful. I congratulate you on keeping them so well and taking such good care of them. I'm sure they're very grateful. Hugs!

I also believe that we shouldn't take care of pets if we don't have proper housing and place for them. When I was living alone, I didn't have any pets because not only I didn't have the space, I constantly move around. Only at home now, I am able to have cat that eventually grow to become this big of a family.
Having cats around us definitely enliven the vibe. I know they can be aloof at times but there were moments when they're being affectionate and constantly reminds us that they too are part of the family.
We have a funny story actually. The eldest cat in the house, Cici is always present in our family pictures. It's as if she doesn't want to be left out whenever my big family takes pictures. At first we thought it was just coincidence but each time we take a big family picture, she's always showing up on the front 😂
Remember, cats are kings... and masters of the house... that's what they've taught me over the years. As for the photos, there's a lot to say about cats, including that they are the link between worlds. I believe that things have happened to me because of them; they take care of me. If she's in the photos, she's part of the family and feels like she is.
10, is insane xD
haahhaaa 10 is definitely insane 🤣
Exactly xD
I love animals so much myself and have always been a "cat lady" also. My father had a lady cat who hated everybody except for him. Even my mother, she hated. But when I was born, she began to sleep with me in my crib. She wouldn't let my mom take me up or off the crib sometimes. Hahaha.
Being in a situation to be able to have cats in my home again, is one of my greatest motivations for organizing my life right now. The other greatest motivations is my Lovey dog having more freedom. Before I even build my new house, first, I will build a fenced yard for him.
Then it's not too many. I can see from the photographs that your cats are strong and healthy and so you obviously care for them very well. And so I say the number is fine. I've never ever brought a cat to be groomed myself. They do such a fantastic job of keeping themselves very clean, as long as they are healthy and well...I have never thought of it even.
Kisses to all the kitties and bless you for giving them a great life.
That's so true! Actually cats can take care and clean themselves properly as long as they are well-fed.There are some cats out there that just like being so clean and thorough with it so we don't really have to bathe them. Thanks for sharing your story about your cat too.
😘
We also have cats in our house. And believe it's also multiplying gradually. They are not our cats, they're actually stray cats who found their home in us. It's not just cats actually, even dogs come to our house and stay. It has become our habit to feed whoever comes to our home and that definitely include animals. My dad said it's a blessing if animals come and stay. We feed and give them shelter that should be the reason they love staying with us. They eat what we eat, they are treated like humans needing care and love.
That's very kind of you giving them shelter. There are many strays out there who need that and they couldn't even find food for themselves. It's a good call that you're taking care of them
We had 20+ cats back in 2000 until 2009. Then we moved to another house just a block away from the previous one. But the cats didn't move in with us, and they all left. Some went back to the old house, and I don't know what happened to the others. Maybe they were thrown away by the owner of the house or even killed.
How did you manage with 20+ cats? For now 10 cats is already waay too much for us.
The whole family loves cats, esp. my sisters who had their favorites among the pack. Then our aunt who lives across the street lent us two big cages, and we taught our cats to sleep there. We just left those cages open so the cats could come and go as they please.
Very beautiful your cats; some might think that having a cat is tiring; but in reality these little friends fill our souls. At home we had 7 cats and unfortunately 3 of them died tragically, one disappeared and two were run over because they run away. Actually as you say, without them the house feels empty.
oh wow! you also have quite a bit of cats. It's unfortunate that some of them were run over. I think cats really make the house lively.
I have only 4 and seems quite too much to me especially for the expenses of they are sick 10 are a lot!!! 😍 But also a dream of every cat lover 💓
whoa son muchos jeje tengo una vecina que tiene igual o un poco más si mal no me acuerdo, a veces siente que la vuelven loca sobre todo cuando tienen hambre, pero como los adora, no puede vivir sin todos ellos jeje
I understand the need to care for so many cats. In my case, we have six cats, and the cost of feeding and caring for them has become a basic monthly necessity. However, what affects us the most is that we live in an apartment, and sometimes it can be difficult. I would like to live in a large house with a patio so they can be outdoors too.

My son also have cat. He want to take care of something since he don’t have sibling. Good thing he eat as long as he like the food. Very sweet, he sleep beside my son. We do nothing but bother and annoy him every time. I still remember, one time he pee on my son’s leg. hahaha I never forget that.
They are really cute, cats are wonderful and having one always demands a lot of attention, they are both cute and quite impulsive.
i m not fan of the cats but they live like kings :D
I have always been passionate about animals. I had several pets, pigs, sheep, chickens, and even a lizard, but my parents never let me have cats because they had a reputation for being badly behaved.
So when I was 20 and living on my own, the first thing I did was adopt a beautiful black kitten named Asuna, and she was the gateway to my love for cats. She has huge green eyes that anyone who sees them falls in love with.
Today, I can't imagine my life without the company of a cat, and I'm lucky to live in the countryside, surrounded by three beautiful kittens, Raya, Rayo, and Baguira.
Thank you for reminding us that such beautiful love and companionship come with the responsibility of providing them with a high quality of life, care, good food, and veterinary care
