Sungit's Kapon Day

Last February, our Magellan was spayed. After that, I also had Sungit lined up for a schedule with Doc Gab Veterinarian's low cost kapon event. Today was Sungit's procedure. Now all our furbabies at home are fixed and vaccinated. It's a good thing that there are people who organize these kinds of events for our fur babies. Spay and neuter procedures are expensive if it's going to be done at local vet clinics. That's why I am grateful for all the animal lovers that put together events like these regularly.

Why is it important to have your pets spayed or neutered? The most obvious reason is to control the population of cats in the neighborhood. Magellan and Sungit found me after they were thrown away by some heartless monsters. I found them inside a box and they were so tiny, each of them could fit in my hand. Once your pet cat is fixed, there's no need to worry anymore for any additional pets. I'm sure there'll be lesser instances of kittens being thrown away like garbage. Plus, there'll be lesser chances of inbreeding among your pets.

I also read a lot of posts from pet owners asking for help because their cats are missing. Most of the time, the cats go missing because they wander off when they are in heat. They are searching for a mate. When they do wander off in the streets, unfortunate events happen to them. They might encounter another heartless humans who might hurt them. Cats might also meet other territorial cats and they might get into fights causing injuries to them.

Magellan once wandered outside of our terrace and I knew that he was about to go into his heat cycle that's why I had him fixed last month. Now, Sungit is also starting to look for ways to go out. It's a good thing I had her scheduled for kapon and now, she's done with her procedure and is currently recovering.

There are a few preparations that need to be done before going into the procedure. The cat needs to be fasted for at least 6 hours before their schedule. Since there'll be anesthetics that will be put into their system, it is much better if their stomach is empty for their own safety. According to today's Kapon Event organizer, they have lots of reports that pets who are properly fasted are far safer after the procedure.

They need to have a cage or a space where they can not jump around or run around while their wound is still fresh. Cats will be cats so make sure that they are away from high places.

They also have to have a cone on their necks once they can stand up already. Cats will lick their wounds and this will cause the stitch to open up. While it's their natural instinct to nurse their wounds through licking and cleaning it, it would be much better if they avoid any contact with their wound.

I haven't fed Sungit much yet after her procedure because up to now, she's still a bit groggy. She tried to walk but she just falls so I just brought her back into her cage. I don't like putting pets on cages but for instances like this, it's for their own safety. Magellan and Sungit are really bonded, I can see Magellan through the monitor lying down beside Sungit's cage while sleeping. I love how they care for each other so much.

Now that all my indoor pets are fixed, I can try to attempt a TNVR with the strays we feed. I will have De La Mingming fixed next month. I just have to find a way to put him in the cat carrier so he can fast. As cat lovers say, the best way to help 1000 cats is to spay at least 1 male stray cat in the community. That's so many kittens saved from being hurt, or thrown away, or getting into an accident. So if you feed strays, try to have them spayed or neutered too. It'll be so much work, but it will be so worth it.

Even here in our city there are events like this where people bring their favorite animals and many animals are brought there. Your cat is very cute.

I wonder why cats lick their wounds. Don’t they feel irritated at all while licking their would or how?
