Of course Thomas Jefferson lifted whole paragraphs from an essay written by the English philosopher John Locke. But he did add value by tweaking it and turning it into a political weapon. And then people have endlessly quoted the Declaration in the last 240 years.
This is how writing has worked in the last 2,000 years. Everytime you use a phrase from Shakespeare ("vanish into thin air") or from the King James bible ("in a twinkling of an eye"), are you copying, would an AI tool think you are copying?
I think a lot of people on hive have a poor understanding of the writing process, and are combining this with extreme authoritarianism. Poor Mariah.
