The Journey Home: Finding Joy in Simplicity

Vijay had always cherished the memories of his childhood spent in the small village where he was born. He would often reminisce about the smell of the sand, the voices of the cricket team, and the innocence of playing games without any discrimination. He had left the village as a young man with big dreams of becoming an engineer and making a name for himself in the world. And he had achieved that dream, but now, as he returned to the village as a successful engineer, he was in for a rude shock.

Everything seemed to have lost its charm. The village looked trashy, and the people seemed uninterested in the games that Vijay had once loved so much. He felt as if the world had moved on without him and that he was a stranger in a place that had once been so familiar to him.

One day, Vijay bumped into his childhood friend, Ramu. He was happy to see him and was eager to relive their old memories. But to his surprise, Ramu treated him with a lot of respect and honored him, not out of jealousy, but because he recognized the success that Vijay had achieved. Vijay was taken aback by this change in Ramu's behavior and felt a sense of disappointment. He asked Ramu why he was treating him differently, to which Ramu explained that he had not had the same opportunities and privileges that Vijay had to pursue his dreams.

Vijay realized that his success and wealth had brought him recognition but also immense pressure and responsibilities. He advised Ramu that power and money often bring more pain than happiness and that the simple things in life should be cherished and appreciated.

The two of them went to the field and started playing cricket, just like old times. They laughed and joked, and their friendship was rekindled. Vijay realized that the true charm of the village was not in its physical appearance but in the memories and relationships that he had created.

From that day onwards, Vijay visited the village regularly and played cricket with Ramu and the other kids. He realized that it was the simple things in life that brought him true happiness and not his success or wealth. He would often sit and watch the children playing, their faces lit up with joy and excitement, and he would feel a sense of peace and contentment.

As he spent more time in the village, Vijay started to feel as if he had never left. He made new friends and reconnected with old ones. He helped the villagers with various projects and initiatives, and they started to look up to him as a leader and mentor.

One day, Vijay was approached by the village elder who asked him if he would consider staying in the village permanently. Vijay was taken aback by the question, but after much thought, he realized that he had found what he had been searching for all along – a sense of belonging and purpose.

He made the decision to stay in the village and set up a small engineering firm. He used his skills and knowledge to help the villagers, and his business flourished. He also started a cricket academy for the children of the village, where he taught them the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.

Vijay had finally found the happiness and peace that he had been searching for. He realized that his success and wealth meant nothing without the love and support of his family and friends. He was grateful for his childhood memories and the people who had helped shape him into the man he had become.

The villagers looked up to Vijay as a role model and an inspiration. He had brought new life and energy to the village, and his legacy

Nice write-up friend. This reminds me of the time I visited my village in Wa, Ghana. I think that the simple things in life actually make us happy, but it is the societal status that is driving up this unhealthy competition amongst ourselves. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your kind words @ispeak. I would love to hear about your visit to your village. I wish I had a place I could call home, but this unhealthy race of life has made me run so hard that I've almost forgotten its location. All it survives in my writings :).

It was surely great to hear about yours. I will find time to write a bit about mine soon enough buddy.
