How I cope with extreme heat

in Indiaunited5 months ago

Heat can cause serious and fatal health problems such as skin rashes, infection, heart attack etc. it can even affect the aged, pregnant women, babies etc. I have seen my nephew cry through out the night but immediately light was restored and the fan was switched on, he stopped crying so I came to the conclusion that heat makes everyone uncomfortable. There are measures I take to be more comfortable during the dry season as it's being called in Nigeria.
I keep cool: I keep myself cool by either switching on the electric fan if there's light but if there's no light, I use a hand fan or I sit under a huge mango tree behind my parents backyard to be shielded from the sun and also feel the gentle breeze on my skin. I normally can't sleep if I'm feeling heat so most of the time, I spend my evenings under the mango tree and by the time I'm ready to go inside, I'll be shivering. Nigerian heat is not my mate not to talk of the sun that beats me when I go to school so all this makes me to bathe up to 4-5times a day if I'm home and also because I'm very hairy, sweat makes me feel sticky and uncomfortable. Most people who have body odour don't just wake up with it but because they don't know how to take care of themselves during the dry season. I believe that it's during this season that people tend to sweat alot and require extra effort in scrubbing their bodies so as to wash off the residue of dirt and sweat.

Everyone should have a cardigan or heavy clothes to wear during the cold weather but I don't have any clothing that is thick but rather, I have light and loose fitting clothes that helps me cope with heat.
Drinking water is not something I do frequently as I can stay a day without drinking water but I don't joke with water during dry season even when I'm not thirsty especially if I'm exerting myself with any strenuous activity. I don't go out without my water bottle in case I need it. When I'm dehydrated I feel intensive headache, tire easily, and doesn't urinate etc.
When the sun is high, I barely go out because I prefer staying indoors. If I'm in my house in school, I make sure that provisions is being stored and that I have everything I need inside the house so that I wouldn't have to go outside and get anything. Even If I have to go out, I run those errands early in the morning. Guys, I've missed class before because the sun was too high and I couldn't just go. During dry season, I do totally abandon my bed and fall in love with the floor because it eases the heat and soothes me. If I sleep on the bed, I won't be able to sleep so I sleep on the floor to avoid sleepless night.
In conclusion, during the dry season, if my power is interrupted, I go to my friend's house so that I could stay under the fan and also charge my phone. I don't like dry season but I devise ways of coping with it and it works like magic for me...
