Honestly if I want to describe this year, I will just say it has been a mixture of sweet and bitter, like garri with too much sugar but still small sand inside. I don’t even know how to rate it because different things keep happening, sometimes I feel on top of the world and other time I just want to hide from everybody and sleep like nothing dey stress me. But that’s life sha.
This year started with plenty hope. I remember telling myself “this year will be my year for real” and I meant it. I had big plans, dreams and even targets. Some of them worked, some didn’t even smell success at all. I got new opportunities I wasn’t expecting, and I also lost ones that I thought were permanent. The thing pain me but what will I do? Life no balance.
I think one of the biggest lesson for me this year is that growth doesn’t shout. Sometimes you think nothing is changing but later when you look back, you realise you actually came far. I became more independent, more quiet, more careful with my circle. I also started appreciating small wins. Before I always wanted big big achievements, now even resting well, eating well or learning something new is part of success in my eyes.
Not everything was good though. I had days I cried silently, days I got disappointed by people I trusted. Some friends left, which hurt, but I later realised maybe we were not meant to be in the same direction anymore. I also struggled with motivation sometimes, even normal daily routine felt heavy on some days. But I kept moving small small, even when my mind was tired.
Still, there were happy moments. I laughed, I cry inside but I made new memories, I met new people that added joy to my year. I had days I felt proud of myself, and I saw myself doing things I never thought I could do.
So if I should describe this year so far, I will say it is not that perfect, but I am grateful. I am not where I want to be yet, but I’m no longer where I used to be. And honestly, I am still hopeful that the remaining part of the year will surprise me with more good things. Because no matter how hard life gets, I still believe better days are coming.
