Seeking Advice: How to Maximize Internet Speed with a Secondary Router

in Indiaunited3 days ago

Hello Fam!

I hope that life is treating you well wherever you are in this part of the world.

In today's digital world the Internet connectivity is very important, and if you're not getting it might be the case that your work or productivity is impacted. I do work from home, and connectivity is a very important part, but over the last few months, I was struggling with the WiFi coverage. I contacted my Internet service provider and asked them to visit and fix the problem; however, with the router they provide, it was not possible to extend the coverage. They basically provide a router which is not very advanced, and although it is a dual-band broadband router but its coverage is limited, and since I use WiFi so it is not possible for me to sit next to the router for work.

They suggested that I extend the coverage by adding another router and recommended a model from the brand called TP-Link. My technical understanding is limited, so I don't know how this works, but all I want is to get this issue resolved so that I do not face the Internet coverage problem at my house. I did buy the product from Amazon and got it delivered this week, so ask the team to visit and get it installed.

They have visited today and got this router installed, which is working well, but I'm still experiencing the problem with speed. I have a plan that offers 150 megabits per second speed on fibre broadband, but after installing this router, that speed is reduced to between 80 to 90 megabits per second. They're saying that when we add an extended router, the speed is divided by 2. I am not convinced because I don't think this should be the right way, and a lot of people must be installing the extended router for better coverage, which does not mean their speed will also be reduced by half.

This is installed and I can use it, but the speed problem is another concern that I am not OK with, so I have asked them to find out the solution and fix it. I also don't know if this can be fixed or not, but I want this problem to be fixed, and whatever the solution is, it is their job to find it and get it implemented in my case. Although speed is not really bad but what I'm getting is not according to my plan because I have a plan for 150 megabits per second, but all I'm getting is around 80 to 90 megabits per second, which is like half of the speed that I am getting, and ideally, this should not be happening.

I thought that I'd spend some time on the Internet to find a solution to this problem, and hopefully it helps, because if I figure out something, I'll share sharing with the Internet service provider to apply the same. Technology is really good, but not everybody is tech-savvy. So it is a part of the struggle that we people have to go through, and I am the one struggling. I would appreciate it if anybody could suggest to me how I should get this problem sorted, where I'm getting proper speed, and it is not divided just because I have installed the additional router for extended Wi-fi coverage. Probably, you too will be the place where I'll be trying to figure out through some videos, or maybe I will also try to utilize AI chatbots to find the solution if it's really feasible and practical in my case. Thank you!

I simply bought the old Google mesh system with three white packs and it works wonderful. The speed is reduced from 1 Gigabit to around 860 Megabit... So not half and I think in my case it is because that is an old system and it is all that it can handle...

I didn't know about Google mesh system. I need to check on the internet about it.

Does it really happen like speed reduces after adding router extension?

It all depends on a specific hardware and software setup. It is possible that in the system you bought that is the case, but not in google mesh.
