Social Media is gripping our lives

in Indiaunitedlast year

These days we will see around us how social media has become so addicting. Social media and mobile phones take us away from us our most productive and valuable time. Mindless scrolling on insta and fb are the new behavioral patterns that have emerged in the recent times. The never-ending reels which are not even for real, people get hooked on to them. I am not saying everything is crap but yes, a lot of it is. It is also up to an individual what they choose to see on social media. One can gain some good knowledge also if put to right use. But the point here is how much of our time we spend on it.

Something goes viral on social media and everyone wants to follow it. These days on the roads also I see people doing some funny things because they want to make reels. Social media company have their share of financial incentives which drives to push forward the content which has high engagement and sadly a lot of rubbish content has high engagement like some dance moves and some funny audio clips for which there are 1000s of followers to mimic. Once in a while for entertainment purpose it is fine to get hooked on to it, but on a daily bases spending our good productive time is not a sensible thing to do.

It is derived that the human behaviors on social media is almost similar. A whole lot of people react to something that goes viral and then everyone gets int that trend. During the Covid times we saw that how information was manipulated on social media. People forget that on these platforms there is no free speech, everything is controlled and this mindless content is promoted to keep people hooked on to it.
We see that not all content gets highlighted.

Some years ago, I started my own page on Facebook which was called "SoulSpace" It was all about healing, promoting alternative therapies and Yoga. But it hardly got visibility. Even my own circle would never get a pop up of my content. On the other hand, if I would put up some pictures of me partying with friends and fun types, those would be seen by everyone and I would get 100s of likes, whereas the good information I would put up would hardly be visible to 5 to 10 people. And then I would get a pop up of asking if I would like to use a paid promotion for that page. I never got into that and eventually stopped putting content on that page. It clearly showed how controlled it was. People could see what they wanted them to see and the other things would get side lined.

People who put up information which goes against any narrative are blocked these days. My Son's Insta and FB page has been blocked many times till now after Covid because he shares some information which goes against the mainstream media and the government narratives. Even his Youtube channel gets blocked on and off. Thanx to some of our decentralized platforms where one can go ahead with free speech without being in the worry of getting censored.

My mom who is 78 now has got into this habit of being on her phone all the time. I get annoyed with her at times, because I can see that at times when she spends a long time on her phone then she gets disoriented. She forgets things. I tell her it's not healthy for her, but she is so addicted to it and when no one is around she gets onto it. It is difficult to control people with these addictions. Before she would watch her television daily drama soaps only on television but nowadays, she keeps watching all of that crap throughout the day on her mobile phone. She feels that she has nothing much to do so it's ok. I tell her to read books instead of that but she does not listen to me.

Social Media companies are profiting big time from all of this so they are going to put content for all age groups which will keep them glued but it is important for people to be mindful. People fall into emotional traps. During Covid times through social media there was so much of fear that was spread out.
Today I read a very good short saying
"Every time you acknowledge fear and worry and integrate into your shadow side a Reptilian gets feded and every time you acknowledge Love, heal and integrate your shadow side a Reptilian goes hungry."
So now it's up to us if we want to feed these Reptilians sitting on top of the pyramid or we want to make them starve?

If we keep going on like this, soon we will forget to live real lives and will be living only virtual lives.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
