Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today’s topic is from Indiaunited which says: A Habit That Changed My Life. So let’s dive in.
Honestly, there are two habits that truly changed my life, and when I look back, I’m grateful to God that I learned them. I’m the type of person who loved helping people a lot, but I reduced it when I saw it was affecting me. Yes, helping people is a good thing. It is something God wants us to do. But my own problem was that I didn’t know how to say No to people. I always put people before myself, even when it was affecting me.
Anytime someone asked me for help, I would drop whatever I was doing, whether it was important or not. Because I didn’t know how to say No. I felt that if I said No to people, they would tag me as someone who is proud or even selfish. So I tried to impress everyone. And because of this, people began to take advantage of my weakness instead of appreciating me—simply because they knew Tosin would never refuse them.
At first, I didn’t mind, because to me, it’s good to help. But as time went on, I started noticing how people didn’t care about my feelings, and because of helping people too much, I couldn’t finish my own work. And one day, something just stirred in me. I said to myself, Tosin, it’s enough. It’s high time you start putting yourself first. That was the moment my life started to change, and it changed for good.
Learning to say No was not easy, but little by little, I realized that saying No doesn’t make me a bad person. It just means I value myself just as much as I value others. And do you know that ever since then, people who used to misuse my kindness suddenly adjusted when they saw I had changed and wasn’t the same person again? If they ask for my help, I let them know that when I’m less busy, I will get back to them. That was the first habit that changed my life—the habit of setting boundaries and putting myself first.

The second habit is gratitude. I practice gratitude every day. No matter how big or small the gift people gives me, I always show my appreciation. I believe that when you are grateful, even for little things, God will bless you with bigger things. If you don’t know, know today that gratitude opens doors of opportunities.
I am also grateful to God for everything He has done in my life and given me—the things I prayed for and the ones I didn’t even expect. If I start mentioning all what God has done in my life, I can’t mention them all. God has been so faithful. Sometimes we forget that even waking up in the morning without being admitted in the hospital is a blessing. Some people think waking up is a normal thing, but it’s not. Waking up in the morning is God’s grace and mercy over our lives. I also thank God for food, shelter, family, friends, opportunities, and even the challenges that helped me grow. I can’t stop expressing my gratitude because there are people who don’t have what we have. The same way we are praying to have what those above us have, that’s the same way people below us are praying to have what we have. The act of gratitude is very important.
In conclusion, these two habits I mentioned changed my life in ways I never expected. They gave me peace, joy and a deep sense of happiness. And honestly, I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
