How much importance is given to learning and education was quiet evident today, in our country. Today the festival of Vijayadashmi was celebrated.
One of the famous temple in our place amidst the river
The festival clearly indicates the first step to learning by the tiny tots who arr ready for school. Early after the sunrise the children are taken to the temple in order to get the blessing of the temple priest. This beautiful ritual is followed by the Hindu community.
The story goes like this. The little ones, accompanied by their parent's and grandparents are taken to the temple. Probably 4 to 5 year old children. We can see more number of the temple priests sitting down in a row with a plate full of grains. Just opposite to them the parent or grandparent sit along witheir little one in the lap.
First step of writing is in the tongue of the littleones by the priest and next they take the hand of the littleone and by catching it firmly force the children to write the first two to three alphabets in the plate of grain.
Some children happily do it while some starts to cry, out of fear. On completing it a small amount of fee is paid to the temple priest and in retuen the priest gift the children with a set of books. And the ritual is complete which means the children is all set to start their schooling.
As most of the temples were overflowing with kids and parents, few educational institutions were also functioning inorder to reduce the flow of children. The Ministers, the Panchayat members and the local body members were a part of this team, for effective functioning of this function.
Some old traditions and rituals in our country, are so beautifully followed irrespective of caste and creed, to keep it live.
