We are in the era of the 21st century where many things has changed and lifestyle has become so fast paced. And the internet which is created to make life easier for the world 🌍, has become a source for all kinds of frauds.

The internet has helped the world 🌎, making online payment so easy, communication with family swiftly, connecting with the world one of the most valuable thing as we can reach out to friends any where around the world, and other advantages we are enjoying. But the internet has also created avenues for fraudsters who has continued to scant for peoples information for the purpose of thefts of all kinds.

Self Aware:

To protect myself from scammers, I have made sure to know the system this fraudulent people use. Being self aware should be the first thing to protect ourselves. Scammers and fraudsters are two online alert 🚨 we should at this stage of our lives be aware of without anyone telling us about them. I mean, with the awareness we have gathered and stories we have heard from other people, we should be at alert at all times, looking out for those signs that we already know.

Because the internet is a place where we interact with people, either on social media or through websites for businesses or course studies. So, practically, we can not avoid the internet because of scammers, but we need to be self aware that they are out their preying on people they will scam.

Watch Out For Unknown Links:

This is another major way to properly protect myself from scammers. Many times I have received some unknowns links in my WhatsApp asking me to click here for this or that. First thing I do when I see messages like this is to check out the sender. And once is someone I don’t know, I will ignore it and delete it after sometime.

Some few months ago I received a message from one of my WhatsApp contacts and this profile is someone close to me. The message was asking me to send some money πŸ’° to him because he was under emergency. But the tone of the message is not of the person I know who is a cousin of mine. I immediately knew something was up. I decided to ignore the message to see if my cousin will call me. But he never did. After two days I decided to call him on his mobile number and not WhatsApp. He immediately told me they hacked his WhatsApp.

This is very important, that we look out for signs that we use in knowing people. What they can do, the way they relate with you and tone of the messages.

Limit Personal Information Online:

Yes! This is another way I can use in limiting scammers. Too much of our information online can create openings for scammers. Here, we should know what to post and what not to post. There some vital information we are not supposed to post online. Although, this might be difficult for a lot of us since many of us work and earn online. And many do big businesses online, so we are all having this as a problem. But still, we need to limit some information, especially those that are more important and private.
