Love's Graces Shine in Shadowed Heart

'Tis in Love's shadows where its gifts are shown,
In hearts where hope has long been overthrown,
In souls aflame with passion's fiery glow,
There Love's sweet graces strongest roots may grow.

When all seems lost, when daylight's cheer has flown
And solace flees, then Grace has made her throne
Within the chest whose chambers ache and rend
There in the black, Love's balm may yet distill
And mend what light and lust had ripped asunder

What joyless mirth or fleeting ties could not impart
Love give with care in melancholy's shroud
When joy is fled and daydreamed dreams depart
In darkness' sheath Love blossoms sweetest proud

There in wrecked hearts Grace pours her finest art
