The Adventures of Mira - The Raven's Problems (Part 1)

As a demigod, I was used to getting into the middle of trouble even if I wasn’t looking for it. One time, during a school trip in England, I got cornered by monsters that were going after other demigods on a quest. Of course, I lent a helping hand, but I ended up crash-landing on a drug deal that was being raided by the Interpol. Gods, the trouble I went through that time. But that’s another story.

Now, imagine how much trouble I could get myself into in the mortal side.

Amara, a daughter of Hecate (a Greek goddess or was she a titan?), and Takashi, a champion of Susanoo no Mikoto (he’s a Japanese god), were accompanying me on a quest. The three of us were in Italy, investigating a nest of monsters and a god that went rogue.

It took us about a week to track down the nest and the god. It turned out it was the rogue god who created the monster nest in the first place, so I suppose it was hitting two birds with one stone. We hopped from one country to another, even transferred continents just to hunt them down.

Good news, we found the monster nest. Unfortunately, we did not find the rogue god. Their identity and background were still unknown to us, so our quest wouldn’t be finished anytime soon. I was thankful I just began my summer vacation last week, so I had time to finish the quest.

The three of us just finished cleaning up the monster nest when all of a sudden, I felt pain explode on my right shoulder. Blood started blooming on the part where it really hurt. Amara and Takashi immediately tried to run to my side.

“No! Stay away!”

Just as I said that, something whizzed past me. I just had enough time to fall to my side and avoid it. My eyes widened when I saw a bullet in the wall. My head whipped to where the bullet came from. I saw something glint under the sunlight in one of the rooftops, but it immediately vanished. I let out a sigh of relief, but at the same time, I felt energy get drained from me. My sight started to become a little blotchy. Before I totally passed out, I could hear Amara and Takashi call my name, as well as a thought: ‘A child of Poseidon, dying from a bullet, how ironic.’

I found myself inside a dream. I was once again ghost-like, my body being semi-transparent, just like every other demigod dream I ever had.

“The ravens are becoming detestable.” I heard an unknown voice say. I could not see a face. “I can’t wait to crush them.”

“Boss, the assassin just sent a report. They succeeded on harming the child of the raven. This will indeed become a warning to them.”

“Very good. Your advice will seem to work, Mr. Lee.” said the first voice.

“Perhaps, but this is just the beginning of the plan.” said the disembodied voice of a faint figure in the room. “Now I will be the one to hit two birds with one stone.”

All of a sudden, the faint figure froze and what I assumed to be their head turned to where I was. “Apparently, we have an uninvited guest.”

They were heading to my direction, but I felt something pull me and then I woke up. I found myself staring at a familiar ceiling.

‘This is my room in the Italian safe house.’ I thought to myself, wondering how I got there in the first place.

I tried to sit up, but pain shot through my shoulder, and I involuntarily clutched it.

“Right, I got shot.” I muttered to myself once my memories started settling in. “That dream though… ravens huh.”

The door to my room suddenly opened and Amara came crashing in, literally. She face-planted the moment she entered the room.

“Are you okay?” I asked, trying to hide my laughter. She had always been clumsy after all.

“I’m fine.”

Amara was fifteen, just two years younger than me. I was the one who found her running away from monsters when she was nine and brought her to the Academy, a safe haven for people like us. Takashi on the other hand was the same age as me. He was sent by his patron to the Academy when he was about ten to get away from danger and to be trained. The three of us tend to group together during quests so I was the closest to the two of them.

“How did you guys get me back here?” I asked, carefully sitting up and drinking the glass of water prepared on the bedside table. I immediately felt better but the pain was still there. “And who patched me up?”

“I did my best.” she answered. “But Mira, it was so strange.”

“Strange? What do you mean?”

“We tried healing you with water. I mean, you usually heal when the wound makes contact with water, but we dunked you in the bathtub, even in the sea, but it didn’t do anything.”

I could feel my left eye twitch, obviously annoyed and startled with what I just heard.

“We tried calling for reinforcements, but we do not have the manpower since the Academy is preparing for the Summer Camp Program.”

I took a deep breath and calmed myself.

“Anyway, we should just stay here until you recover. Takashi is doing some research regarding the rogue god and his movements.” she assured me in which I only shook my head. “Hmm? What is it?”

“I think something’s going on.” I set my gaze out the window where I could see the ocean, crashing against the cliffs. There were a few infrastructures I could see in the window, but everything else was relatively peaceful. “And I think I know where we should go.”

All of a sudden, the door to the room opened with a panicked Takashi entering it.

“We have a problem guys! There are people with guns in the front gate!”

I could only click my tongue to convey my annoyance.
