Goddess Of Darkness: The Meeting

in Scholar and Scribelast year (edited)

Our heroes are still trapped in a remote compound owned by the leader of a deadly ring of criminals. Will the humane treatment that they have been receiving continue? Will they ever see freedom again?

"This way, please," Sandra said, as she smiled at Bruce and Lilac. She and the guard escorted them to a large two bedroom and two bathroom suite.

"Take all of the time you need, the food will be ready when you are finished," Sandra said.

"Thank you," Said Lilac.

After they were alone, Bruce started to open his mouth.

"Let's get cleaned up, I'm starving!" Said Lilac as she made motions with her hands indicating that they might not be alone.

Bruce nodded. "She's right, cameras and microphones are probably installed in almost every room on the property. We need to be extra careful," he thought.

After they had enjoyed the luxury of the facilities for as long as they reasonably could, they emerged into the hallway. The same guard, Michael, was waiting.

Michael greeted them professionally but politely, and led the way. Soon they found themselves back in the meeting room, enjoying the food that they had requested. There was also a choice of drinks, and some other food.

"Now that you have been refreshed, shall we chat?" asked Evan warmly.

"The Goddess is endangered, it only grows in one place on Earth. Once it's gone, we can never get it back," Pleaded Lilac. "We have to keep it hidden to protect the only wild population in the world!" she said, almost in tears.

She looked at Evan and Sandra, who seemed moved by her passion. Hope began to surge through Lilac. "Maybe they will understand what's at stake," she thought.

"Lilac, I can assure you, we are well equipped to protect the Goddess. Nothing will happen to it, or the area where it grows. I give you my word. In fact it will be safer under our protection."

Lilac was disappointed. "They still want to control it..." she thought bitterly.

Feigning uncertainty, she said "How can you be so sure? Each person who knows the location increases the risk."

"I am pretty good at keeping secrets." replied Evan, obviously thinking. "I won't disclose the exact location to anyone else. We will patrol the nearby terrain, being careful not to disturb the growing area. Only a few of my most trusted people will even know that much."

Lilac acted like she was considering it. "I don't know... What about the good that the Goddess could do for those who are ill? If I give it to you, the research labs will never be able to get enough samples to do the work needed to try to synthesize it."

"I will provide them with samples, and I will let you decide how much can safely be harvested as well. Nothing bad will happen to the Goddess, and its miraculous properties will benefit Mankind," the powerful crime lord replied gently.

All discussion stopped when there was a loud, urgent rapping on the door.
