Cindy, what age this is addressed to? with my almost 12 y.o. girl, these things do not work already...
With your 12-year-old daughter, make an art aimed at family love, perhaps creative paintings where both of you can make your own story from the drawing.
At that age sometimes they need a bit more of a purpose for doing something, in which case you could use this type of pattern (or a different one) to make some custom wrapping paper (at least that's what I've done previously with my kids).
I guess the important thing is to be doing it together and enjoying each other's company? :)

at this moment we still have a few joint ventures to enjoy (feeding birds, reading books, buying pizza) - but it is less and less, each year. heh...
