Speech stimulation in children under three years of age

in Home Edders2 years ago
Hello to all the members of this beautiful learning community @homeedders today I would like to share with you some strategies for early language stimulation in our little ones. It is fundamental to understand that there is no age to begin the stimulation of communicative skills and abilities, even from the womb children are able to establish an affective bond with the mother's voice which they recognize as part of themselves and their vital environment. The father's voice is also a mechanism of motivation and stimulation, hence it is very important to establish communication with our children from the very first moment.

Some strategies that we can use for early stimulation are:

-Talk constantly with our baby. There are those who think that they cannot understand us and therefore it is enough to attend to them and provide support when they cry. However, it is essential to talk to them when they play, while we feed them, even while they are asleep we can tell them stories and explain things about our day to day life. Babies who speak more quickly and fluently are influenced by the external stimuli provided by their parents, siblings and caregivers. Talking to them is fundamental.

-Respond affectionately to the baby's sounds. It means that when babies make the characteristic sounds with which they call our attention we respond to them by first seeking the explanation and telling the child what he/she wants and what his/her request means from love.

-Show the baby by example games where they move their lips. In this particular strategy is based on making the children discover the correct way to pronounce letters, syllables and words and this is achieved through a good posture of the lips and with simple games we can achieve them.

-Playing to produce sounds of different objects, animals and even the elements. This is one of my favorites and we can do it in a very fun way through stories and stories where we can imitate the characters and the sounds that characterize the objects.

-Avoid correcting the baby by saying "That's not right, that's wrong, that's not how you pronounce it" with babies it is enough when once they have mispronounced the word we say it and repeat it in the correct way. Remember, they learn by imitation.

-Encourage the child to communicate with words, even short ones, when he/she wants something or wants to express discomfort.

These simple strategies although we all know them are necessary and especially remember them in this time where the family has replaced face-to-face conversations by communication via telephone or any other device, this is isolating the little ones and we leave the learning and stimulation of speech in many cases on television or the internet. I insist, the family is the main source of socialization and especially for children to develop their skills and abilities successfully. The early years are fundamental for our development as people and social beings.

Wow, thanks for this fantastic content @emimoron . My sister in law is about to have an (angel) baby girl and I have to motivate her about this activity. For sure it's effective .

Thank you very much, it is very important to stimulate the baby from the very womb so that it begins to develop its hearing and to relate affectionately with the parents. Hence, the baby establishes a bond with the mother through her voice.

These strategies are very effective and especially talking to them. Talking to children and communicating with them from the moment they are in the womb facilitates the process of developing their communication skills. Very good post

Thank you. It is very important for parents to understand that the development of children's skills and abilities depends on what we do to stimulate them and help them strengthen what they bring innately. Language needs stimulation and interaction with others especially with parents at that stage of life.
