As the warmth of the sun beckoned, I embarked on a summer adventure that would prove to be both fulfilling and heartwarming. For a few months, I embraced the role of a tutor, guiding and nurturing young minds through the captivating world of learning. This journey, as a Summer Tutor with kids, was an experience that left an indelible mark on my heart.

The setting for this enriching chapter was Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, 3 hours travel from my hometown. (I asked my elder brother first If I could stay there and use his house as my room during tutor time. Without a doubt, my brother answered me with a big yes.)

This place is a vibrant and lively backdrop that mirrored the enthusiasm of the children I had the privilege to teach. With each lesson, I found myself immersing myself in the joy of education as I witnessed the transformation of hesitant minds into curious explorers, eager to unravel the mysteries of language, numbers, and the world around them. Among the eager faces were children of various ages, each possessing a unique blend of challenges and strengths.

By also adorning the walls with these humble yet inspiring charts, I aimed to create an environment that not only facilitated effective studying but also nurtured a genuine passion for learning. These visual reminders served as companions on their educational journey, reminding them that every effort, no matter how small, was a step towards their personal growth and success.

Scheduling.....

For everyone's information, the range of schedules opened the door to personalized learning experiences. While one student preferred morning sessions, another thrived during the late afternoon, and my nephew's schedule is anytime as long as I am free. This diversity encouraged me to design lessons that catered to their preferred times, ensuring that they could grasp concepts effectively and engage actively in the learning process.

Reading Adventures

I was met with an inspiring challenge: my first student, a bright-eyed seven-year-old boy grappling with the complexities of reading. It felt like helping a butterfly unfurl its wings.

His struggles were apparent, yet his determination shone brightly. The initial sessions were met with hesitancy and frustration, but I was unwavering in my commitment to guide him. Together, we delved into the world of letters, sounds, and words, unraveling the intricacies of language step by step.

Patience became my closest ally. Each day, we worked tirelessly, repeating sounds, blending letters, and forming words. The spark of understanding in his eyes as he pieced together his first sentence was a moment of triumph for us both. It was a testament to the power of persistence and the magic that unfolds when a mentor and student unite in pursuit of a shared goal.

As the summer days rolled on, his reading improved, transforming from a daunting task into a source of empowerment. His confidence soared, and his eagerness to learn became infectious. I watched with pride as he confidently read aloud, the words flowing effortlessly from his lips, a testament to his unwavering dedication.

Cultivating Writing Skills

Another young student, a boy of the same age, embarked on a journey of conquering the art of writing. His battle to translate his thoughts onto paper and shape the letters with precision presented a formidable challenge, yet this encounter laid the foundation for a truly memorable tutoring experience.

The early days were marked by frustration and self-doubt. The blank pages before him seemed daunting, and the act of wielding a pencil became a source of anxiety. But with patience as my compass, I introduced him to a world of creativity and expression, one gentle stroke at a time.

We embarked on a journey of tracing lines, forming curves, and crafting the alphabet. With each letter mastered, his confidence grew, a spark of pride igniting in his eyes. I also let him try other activities like coloring, painting, and crafting. Our sessions were punctuated by laughter and the joy of discovery. Together, we transformed his struggles into stepping stones, paving the way for progress and growth.

Through his journey, I discovered the power of tailored guidance. Understanding his unique challenges allowed me to adapt my teaching methods, tapping into his strengths and fostering an environment where mistakes were celebrated as opportunities to learn. It was a testament to the significance of individualized attention, the cornerstone of effective tutoring.

As the days turned into weeks, his penmanship underwent a remarkable transformation. What once felt like an unattainable feat became a skill he wielded with newfound confidence. His words flowed onto the paper, a testament to his resilience and unwavering dedication. But beyond the physical act of writing, he unearthed his voice, his thoughts and ideas taking shape in a tangible form.

Little Explorer of Learning

Last but not least, I had the privilege of offering my one-year-old nephew a series of educational lessons, free of charge, that would spark his intellectual growth and deepen our familial bonds. The remarkable progress he made in mastering concepts like colors, shapes, alphabets, phonics, numbers, animals, and more left an indelible mark on both of us. (Because he is a bit fidgety, I did not have the chance to record the moments when I taught him those things.)

The innocence and curiosity that radiated from my nephew's bright eyes served as a reminder of the limitless potential within young minds. Armed with simple teaching tools, a plethora of colorful visual aids, and an abundance of patience, I set out to create a stimulating learning environment that would capture his imagination.

The crowning achievement came as the month drew to a close. With a heart full of pride and admiration, I watched as my one-year-old nephew confidently showcased his newfound knowledge. The colors, shapes, alphabets, phonics, numbers, and animals were no longer abstract concepts; they were a part of his growing identity and a testament to his boundless potential.

What truly touched my heart were the thoughtful gestures and sweet surprises from my students. During breaks, they would often surprise me with local snacks and delicacies, showcasing their genuine appreciation for my guidance.

I was confident that the parents of these three little children had reared them well and would continue to do so. Simply saying "thank you" and "I love you," or giving me a tight hug and kiss—especially from my nephew—will make my heart melt. I adore children for this reason, which also explains my intense affinity for my nieces and nephews. I miss them so much. OMG, I'm about to cry wahhhhhhhhh🥹🥹🥹

Anyway, to sum up, our shared journey was not devoid of obstacles, yet each challenge served to fortify our connection and cultivate resilience. Reflecting on my time with this young scholars, I am reminded that the influence of a tutor reverberates beyond the boundaries of a lesson. It is an odyssey of transformation, a mutual endeavor that shapes both student and mentor alike. In their accomplishments, I discovered my own, and in their advancement, I unearthed the genuine essence of education – a voyage of empowerment, maturation, and unwavering determination.

That would be all for now. Thank you so much for lending me your time to read this; I really appreciate that. I wish you all safety and keep hydrated.😉

I like that you decided to work to their time schedules. Really every child is different in when they can focus best, so it does them a disservice to try and make them fit the same schedule. It looks like they all had fun while they were learning too.

OMG, thank you for reading my blog and for the warm welcome hehe.🥹
