For us, a trip outside the house means we found a lot of beautiful fall colors! I love collecting these bright leaves with my toddler, and I decided to prep an activity sorting them by size.π
My toddler loves sorting activities. π§‘π
If you spend a lot of time outside with your child and you need some ideas on what to do and how to implement educational activities while you're walking or playing in your back yard, this is an idea you can try!
All you need to do is to pick up some autumn leaves and let your toddler sort them using one piece of cardboard/paper.
Caleb sorted these according to the sizes: BIG, MEDium, small.
Lots of learning usually happen through this fun and simple nature activity!π
Sorting helps children develop fine motor skills, brain skills that help with memory, attention and problem-solving. Also, there are research suggesting that learning to sort is one of the many skills that can contribute to stronger math skills later on.
You can guide your small toddler if he's still learning about Big, Medium and Small concepts.
My toddler did this activity by himself, without any of my help.

I love the idea to sort the leaves by sizes I would have thought about shapes or colour but not size I think this is a nice way to make it challenging for the childπ
We did also the color sorting but I didn't think I can do the sorting by shape!
