UNSCHOOLING BIOLOGY CLASS IN THE SEA MUSEUM

in Home Edders3 years ago (edited)

Where should good biology lessons be taken? Only in nature investigating alive creatures or in museums where we can see those ones who can't be observed alive.

My son is fond of animal world, and he spends a lot of hours reading encyclopedias about it. So visiting a museum of sea fauna was a nice addition to his knowledge.

It's a local museum of Kerch that is popular not only by its collections by also by a great number of scientists who work there. Kerch is a city if 2 seas, and sea scientists always have a lot of work here. They study both sea creatures, sea plants and all other water organisms, and how human can use them. One of their most popular investigations is creation of cosmetic brand that is based on sea world power.

But my boy was more interested in sea fauna, of course:)
There is a big hall with all possible fish and sea creatures not only from the local seas but from the oceans as well.
We tried to make many photos, but the exhibition was so huge that one moment I stopped doing it and just enjoyed the processand my son's WOW effect:)

The most amazing thing is that ALL creatures here are REAL. There are no "dolls" who were artificially made to for the exhibition, they all really lived in real oceans.

We spent about an hour there and it wasn't enough.
We are going to go there again to refresh our impressions and see more new details because the first time was too full of emotions to notice all of them;)

Sort:

Photo № 3 looks like a goblin shark. Also, that "whalebone" looks more like baleen plate to me - which is what filter-feeding whales have in their mouth instead of teeth.

Otherwise, great photos!

whalebone was google translate😊
китовый ус in Russian, that's how the museum worker called it
but I was very surpsied that it looks like THIS

Hi , Good day! It is wonderful to see and read like this kind of content that added a lot of information. I can say that we have the same reaction with your son when I saw these images and read its description. I was amazed about the whale's bone, I wasn't expecting it looks like that. I salute your son for having an interest when it comes to this field. He's open-minded and there is an eagerness within him to explore and learned from it. I'd been to aquariums a lot of times but in a museum just like the one you had shown was quite new to me. Thank you for these bright ideas.

This must have been fun! Equally exciting as visiting an aquarium, in my opinion. And I can relate with the documenting part - we can really get torn between photographing them and really just enjoying the moment.

I'm also amazed by the whalebone, and the rest of the display! The @divinekids and I enjoyed watching the photos you shared. :D

Hello excellent post certainly in museums there is much to learn besides being an excellent opportunity for children to get to see things that perhaps only in photographs have seen. On the other hand museums connect us with our history and culture.

Yay! 🤗

Places like this are an invitation to learn and they're like boosters that help children to gather new informations about what they're pasionate about.
Also they grow and keep alive that natural intrinsic desire and motivation in children to absorb information.

[I wish my son be more interested in animals, like your kiddo!]

Such an amazing museum. I would love also to visit it.
