Alphalab: It is the future home. We want to make it so that people can live in it without any worries, and so the main task is to make people’s lives much easier.

Designer: How will the future home be able to help people?

Alphalab: The idea is that, when people enter the future home, they will feel as if they are living in a home that they can do anything in. They will be able to do almost everything by themselves.

Designer: What would you do?

Alphalab: (Laughs) I’m not sure, but I think I would definitely do nothing. I feel that if I cannot do things by myself, then I’m not human at all.

Designer: It would be difficult to live alone.

Alphalab: Actually, it is not that we will live alone. We are working on making a household where one person lives with a machine. In the future, people will be able to live together with a machine.

Designer: The future home will be able to make meals?

Alphalab: Yes, and it will cook meals in the house.

Designer: The future home will also be able to take care of people?

Alphalab: (Laughs) Yes, it will become a care robot. Actually, the core idea behind the future home is to make it to work as a care robot. When it is in the house, the machine will do housework and make people have a more pleasant life. However, at this stage, we are making it so that the machine can be made to do some jobs to take care of people. But what we are actually going to do is to make it so that the machine takes care of people. We are focusing on making it possible for the machine to make people’s lives easier by making the machine take care of people.

Designer: And the future home will only live for 20 years?

Alphalab: (Laughs) It may seem too optimistic. However, 20 years is long enough to think that people are going to live with a machine. As the name of the company implies, our mission is to live with people as long as we can.
