What happened on STEEM and how the HIVE was created

in #hive4 years ago (edited)

I have a question under my previous post on the ReadCash and in some other places I have people asking me to explain this or that, so I decided to write down the whole drama around STEEM hostile takeover and explain it from the start to the end, as the whole thing is over and HIVE has been created by fork.

On ReadCash ZeusONPills asked me this:

QuoteWhy did people think it was OK to freeze someone's legitimately acquired assets on a blockchain? Let alone the fact that they did that as a precaution, not even because they had proof of the purchase being a hostile takeover of some sort. I don't understand their logic, if people didn't like the pre-mined amount and what the holder of it could do, then they shouldn't have started using that currency in the first place, or the system built around it. This situation stinks from every side... Am I missing something here? Was Sun somehow hostile? Also, how the hell did he "evict" the censoring witnesses? Did he upgrade the client of the website to ignore the censors?

Ok, this is a legit question, because as far the outsiders can read online a few things are not clarified or are buried under the piles of TRON shill's junk - something was stolen but in fact it WAS NOT. You see, Justin Sun DID NOT loose his money, he lost capability to vote with development funds on governance.

What is a problem with Sun's takeover?

With his dominance over governance, the STEEM would stop to exist and the hole community with dapps would be merged into TRON to essentially justify the effectiveness of his existing dapps on TRON. In short he would use us as a presentable utility for his investors. TRON, compared to STEEM as an original idea, is a copypasta gambling coin, it is also centralized around Sun being major holder and it is being ran as a casino chain. Adding an active community of STEEM users would justify TRON utility.

Ninja mine was a promised dev fund

Ninja mine was not legit acquired in the first place, Ned sold him a stolen dev fund, and Justin Sun announced he will hijack STEEM blockchain and blend STEEM with TRON right in the start.

There is no legally binding document which resolves this question, but if the same thing was promised over and over and written into a blockchain, a said thing COULD be used as a binding contract. But for a law this is a new territory, and it would be a thing of a precedent.

What witnesses done?

Witnesses then blocked Justin Sun intention by freezing ninja mine from VOTING ( not from ownership) and asked Justin Sun to come and talk.

What Justin Sun done?

Instead taking initiative and talk as any adult person, Justin Sun decided to play games and sham exchanges to hijack funds of people who had STEEM there.

This is how he was able to elect the fake governance to restore voting capabilities of ninja mine.

Justin Sun lied to exchanges that he has a code for STEEM blockchain upgraded and as exchanges knew little to nothing about what is going on and because he is influential person they done that.

Also unlike other big exchanges, the Binance and Huobi, the Poloniex is owned by Sun, so he continued voting with those funds even when other exchanges announced that they are not participating.

So after multiple exchanges applied the fake code Justin Sun locked liquid STEEM funds belonging to users without their permit or knowledge, and use it to vote new governance of a blockchain with profiles he made himself posing as STEEM witnesses.

He then restored a voting capability of ninja mine and momentarily took the governance of the chain calling the STEEM concensus witnesses "hackers". While in fact, he was the one hacking and stealing funds from community and random investors in those exchanges.

What was a reaction on hostile take over?

After that the legit STEEM governance and community mobilized and the whole thing with STEEM/TRON begun w/ STEEM winning a battle. Developers of STEEM who were employees of Steemit company resigned and publicly acknowledged their resignation in their STEEM posts and some of them on Twitter.

Proxy.token Korean blackmail

In the middle of the whole broil and trying to talk and deal something, Korean super account proxy.token decided to blackmail STEEM into complying to his terms asking money and favors. Korean account voted half/half in favor of both sides, waiting which side will offer more.

In short what witnesses done was only disabling ninja mine to vote on fake witnesses so that Justin Sun doesn't append us to TRON, they didn't take away his money.

Justin Sun lies on Twitter

What we could see from his side on Twitter were lies, nobody robbed him. And he continued inventing stories - he was even trying to persuade Binance publicly on Twitter that a random code on Github is an attempt of hackers to freeze "everything". After a few hours of bickering the Binance gained a clear picture of things and sided with community and developers who replied explaining Sun being abusive and a lair.

Exchanges drop Sun and side with community

After exchanges saw what they done, they tossed Justin Sun under the train and rolled back to release funds to their clients. But the problem was that now they have to put all the accounts under maintenance because a powerdown / withdraw from frozen to liquid in case of STEEM blockchain lasts 13 fucking weeks, the exchanges also make clear they will do everything to restore money to their clients ...

Stalemate continues

After that, Justin Sun started buying STEEM and powering up even more to win witness game and fork an option where you can powerdown in only a few days - so he can return hijacked funds to the users of the exchanges he robbed.

Having the whole community on their side major protagonists, the witnesses and developers opt to port all dapps and community in safer environment, and away from Justin Sun pathetic drama.

Why Justin Sun is portrayed as a criminal?

Unlike witnesses who did NOT steal anything and who do not need to explain consensus decision to anyone as that is a base premise of a blockchain, Justin Sun

  • participated in buying a stolen funds,

  • tried to hijack a community by having a centralized management made of fake witnesses - in this case everything, the whole STEEM blockchain would be controlled by him, INCLUDING your own personal wallet,

  • he plans to destroy STEEM by appending it to TRON ,

lying to exchanges,

  • locking user funds in 13 week powerdown

  • and using their own money for personal gain and profiting,

but ... he also

  • lied to everybody, including his business partners, sponsors, patrons and

  • proved to be a complete shit of a person, lacks cognition, lacks initiative and down right he behaved as an abusive criminal.

Justin Sun has no interest in developing STEEM so major part of community, all witnesses and developers discredited his lies as a fake PR. The ones who took his side obviously did not see that clearly, but after HF many also rapidly changed opinion.

Those people do not see Justin Sun as a leader - he is clearly not- but just as a good money opportunity that maybe can benefit their pockets, now with the tides are changing the same fanboys who pushed his agenda, are in havoc to pocket the both chains.

STEEM was not perfect, HIVE is an improvement

On the other side, it has been proven that STEEM is not perfect, ninja mine was a liability for decentralization right from the start back in 2016. But ninja mine was promised by SeemitINC to be a development fund, not a governance fund. Allocated development fund in a way guaranteed that chain is going to survive.

Chain of course should have been upgraded but during the previous weeks with the chaos taking reign, that was impossible, and very late.

We also proved how well organised and unanimous in our desires and wishes we are as a community powering that chain, and it would be a pity to sacrifice such a valuable thing for centralization and dictatorship.

As a human-chain we are susceptible to the human errors and level of subjectivity that is hard to predict, but as a robot-chain under Sun we would be susceptible to any decision no matter how ignorant,self-absorbed and down right stupid it may be. The decision-making for the matter including all of us would be handed to one single person, not a consensus of multiple witnesses and definitely we would not be able to unvote because we were not voted them in the first place.

People say that rich on this sort of a chain will always earn more, and poor will earn little, but a proportional earnings by investment are - even with all prejudice - equality at work, otherwise it is equity and with huge differences between people of different economies it makes little sense. Idealistic people forget the harsh reality of the world we live in, 100 bucks is not the same for the person in United States and a person in Bangladesh. It would be great if it is the same, but for a long time it will not be.

And with the differences, all those 'rich' people can also help the ones who are not so lucky to live in perfect societies. We can help each other and help drag these people not only out of a poverty but also out of the darkness their minds were born into.

Economic slavery is not only slavery that exist in the world.

Technology allows many thing - cyber freedom is one of them - HIVE is created

Because of all the things included and everything that happened a major part of community with witnesses ported all dapps, resources, websites and development to a new chain and we Hard Forked in Friday creating HIVE.

Preventing another cyber attack by blocking hostile accounts

Steemit company accounts controled by Justin Sun and people supporting a community blackmail are excluded from a HIVE airdrop, so they can't make a same governance mess and harassment like they done on STEEM. This is why those accounts are blocked, nobody betrayed or stole from them - their reaction was pretty butt-hurt, but completely deserved. In addition, Proxy.token and his community of supporters are well known plagiarizers and spammers on STEEM, so that is also one plus of making an airdrop unavailable to them.

They wanted a centralized STEEM blockchain under Sun, NOW they can have it and should not seek anything from HIVE chain, as they proved with their actions they have no interest in decentralized system or to build such a thing with the rest of us.

Community created and make the chain alive, same like we were doing for STEEM, we will do for HIVE.

Some basic things about HIVE

HIVE is not starting from zero, the supporting community took everything and exchanges already acknowledge the HIVE.

HIVE has been created without ninja mine, and that is one huge step towards decentralization. The path HIVE has to go will not be perfect, because we as humans are not perfect so a human-chain we created and continue creating will also not be a flawless perfection or completely ridden of mistakes, but that is a thing of a future to see and dependent on community effort to solve.

As for Friday users can log in both blockchains, both STEEM and HIVE and use which one they like better or both of them simultaneously. Personally I do not want to support centralization around Sun, so I will be using HIVE. Without any doubt the opportunistic part of community will participate in both.

And for the end...
