Where can I buy Hive?

in #hive11 days ago

Simple one today; what platforms can I use to buy Hive in the UK?

All the big and little sites I’ve visited (usually because they’ve been recommended to me) appear to have UK restrictions 🤷‍♂️

Thoughts?

Sort:

I did KYC with MexC. Because it rhymes. Also the government makes me.

To start buying Hive, I have to buy USDC with my debit card in Mexc.

Then I transfer from the USDC fiat account to the spot account.

Then I make my USDC to Hive swap.

Then I try to transfer it to my Hive account. But it tells me I have to wait 72 hours. So I try a 3-day bender. But realise that my beer money has gone on Crypto. So I sleep awhile.

Finally I transfer the Hive I bought at $0.22 into my Hive account where it's worth $0.17

So if anyone has a better way, I'd love to know. Because I'm hoping to buy more in 2 months.

[I've replaced my comments as I realised I'm not a good fit for zypto.]

Interesting! That’s quite a work around. I just tried simpleswap.io that everyone’s recommended and it’s works great.

All I did was transfer some existing Etherium that I had on Coinbase via their platform (no sign up needed, just scan the QR code for the send address and then pop in your Hive address name - and boom, 7 minutes later on lands on your account.

Seems like a really good solution! With checking out of you can buy BTC or ETH somewhere with easy with fiat.

Good luck with your next go! Cheers for the comment mate

That is my big problem. I do not have any Crypto outside of Hive. Except for a small amount of WAX, but that path into Hive Engine was closed a long time ago.

I have had some GBP in a bank account with a debit card that allows me to buy just about anything I want. But to buy HIVE, I have to contort myself through hoops. And common sense tells me that there must be an easier way.

I guess good sense ain't that common.

Ah mate that’s tricky.

Few years ago I used to buy XRP (Ripple) on Bitstamp with USD, then transfer that to Bittrex (dead) and buy hive-related tokens there. I chose Ripple because it back then had much lower transfer/withdrawal fee than i.e. BTC or ETH. I guess now effective fees on BTC are even higher ;)

Lately I do that in a single step via Binance, so far, sending EUR to Binance account directly turned out to incur the lowest fees. But if you are in UK, well.. that's probably not helpful at all.

That is very interesting. And with my VPN, it could be helpful. At the very least, it's something for me to play with. So thank you very much.

Coincidentally, immediately before reading your comment, I was playing with Revolut. And XRP is one of the few currencies that they allow you to withdraw without demanding a limb or close family member in withdrawal fees.

Maybe new paths to buying HIVE are emerging? Or do I buy ARB and get LEO? Some days I wish I didn't overcomplicate everything🙂.

We've responded to this question many many times, but let's go again!

Our integrated on/off-ramping aggregator service in turn works with many companies around the world, but not all assets are available in all regions.

We have live support agents available both on the website and through the app as well as trying to keep up with dozens of other communication channels, so "we won't tell you why" isn't really a fair assessment of our willingness to respond to questions!

The only way I know at this time is buy some other coin or a stable coin (coinbase works last I checked) and then trade into hive on binance or the likes.

Bittylicious is also good, it acts more like a peer to peer market for crypto than an exchange and is usable in the UK still. https://bittylicious.com/

There's no direct method of buying hive that I know of available in the UK and even getting normal crypto is a pain since binance nolonger does UK fiat payments

Bittylicious is my favourite now 😂
What a name.

Yeah I’ve found a couple of good workarounds thanks to various replies. Thanks

I use mexc exchange and it's an easy place to buy hive. You can try this if it's available in your country

I previous went via my Wirex debit card to buy Litecoin that I could swap on the blocktrades site (now dead). Later I used the Buy With CC (Transak) option in the peakd wallet to buy $HIVE directly, but that seemed to stop working. So I have not bought any in a while. It sounds like simpleswap is used by many, so I should look at that. I just haven't bought any in a while as I sold some Splinterlands stuff to get $HIVE to power up. We really do need simple routes, but regulations can make it complicated. I think some sort of KYC is mandatory.

You can use the easy and fast https://simpleswap.io/
to swap from other Cryptos to Hive. No account needed.

Perfect! Thank you!

Is Binance restricted in UK?

I had never used simpleswap, will check it out @stayoutoftherz

It says restricted until further notice or something long those lines.
Simpleswap is a great solution- genuinely impressively simple! It worked brilliantly.

simple, alright, but how high were the overall fees?

I have absolutely 100% no idea 👍

I buy from coinbase (requires kyc) and then simple-swap.
Coinbase helpfully delayed my transaction until I'd taken their scam quiz.

Cool. I’ve got a Coinbase account so that’s no issue for BTC. Someone mentioned simple swap but the site I visited said it was restricted in the UK 🤔
Do you have a link to what you use please? TIA

https://simpleswap.io/

I used it this morning 🙂

Cool thanks.
Did have to do the KYC thing or is it just free to use?
I’ve set up an account but can’t seem to get past the KYC as it’s asking for information on trades that I don’t have 🤷🏼‍♂️

Any help welcome, thank you!

I don't have an account or log in.

Ah ok. Interesting. Maybe I’ll just do that instead 🫣😂
Sorry, I don’t know much these days. It used to be all kind of signing up and pissing about back in the day. Seems like it a bit more free this way.

The easiest way is to use hive engine. You have to buy litecoin (or whatever coin you want that has a swap equivalent on hive engine but I prefer litecoin) on whatever exchange you have access to, then send it to hive engine, then you can trade for swap.hive which you can transfer to hive.

Ah yes! I remember Swap.Hive, I did that back in the day but have totally forgotten the process/not kept up with the tech much in the last few years.

Cheers, I’ll check it out

Send BTC or ETH to hive engine and trade to hive

Not checked out hiveengine in a long time. I will investigate again. Thank you mate

Pretty sure you can buy hive on binance in the uk,then send directly from there unless regs have changed recently.

The site didn’t let me near it, with some pop up about UK regs and unavailable until further notice or something

It must be closed for new sign ups or something, I can still buy Hive on the binance app today and im in the UK.

Give it a try Crypto.com or Zypto, for example (still trying to post a review of it). Unsure if they are restricted there in the UK.

Exchanges always get you better rates than conversions via other dapps/providers, but I would say, anything below 5% fee from FIAT to Hive, is a win already.

On PeakD you also have a couple of options on the exchanges, but they are mostly OK if you already have crypto.

Good tip! Thank you

I used changelly recently to buy hive

The link to my post explains more but basically bank account to coin base, buy btc, and then use changelly to convert and transfer to my hive account.

I did look at simple swap, and while I was able to go from btc to hive, it didn't seem to let me go the other way (and while I don't plan to sell anytime soon, I need to know there is an option for an off-ramp... changelly would allow me to do that)

Changelly also has a bonus in no KYC, literally just asks for an email address :-)
