Today we are going to talk about a very important woman called Grace Murray Hooper.
She was a pioneer of computer programming who invented one of the first linkers.

She was born in New York, December 9, 1906 - and died in Arlington, Virginia, January 1, 1992.

Studies

She had no problems in studies becuase his father and his grandfather defended her and they wanted her to have the same opportunities as a boy.

In 1928 Grace was graduated in Mathematics and Physics
In 1930 she made a Master in Mathematics
Finally in 1934 she finished a Doctorate in Mathematics

Contributions

He entered the army in 1943 in the middle of the Second World War. Graduating the first 1944 as a lieutenant.

She was one of the programmers of the first great computer, the UNIVAC. In 1949.
She worked on the development of COBOL, a programming language system that could be used for business applications. Created in 1959.

She re-entered the army as she was in reserve until the end of 1966. However, she did not retire until 1986, being the oldest woman in the army.

Curiosities

The invention of the term bug is wrongly established. However, it was created when the Mark II was manufactured when a butterfly got hooked inside the computer.

Since 1971, the Grace Murray Hopper Award has been awarded by the ACM (Association for Computer Machinery).
