RE: Proof of Gatekeeping #1

in #hive15 days ago

The specific problem you posted as an example is a rare case.

I have more examples. #2 will be about paginated calls.
But maybe this has been fixed since I last checked (doubt it, lol)...

https://api.syncad.com/

I have ignored the new api.
This is the first time seeing that stuff.

I have developed my own thing, because I wanted websockets (polling from all clients is terrible).

The discord you posted is an example of that.

It was there, where I tried helping someone who had asked something weeks before, and the moment I respond to help, a bunch of accounts come out of the woodworks or whatever to correct me. Instead of helping that dude weeks ago. Pathetic. Toxic, even.

The solution is and has always been to get more users.

I disagree. 'Build it and they will come', right?
The problem is ladder-pulling. And gatekeeping.
I can feel it myself: I have built something cool and easy and I don't feel like sharing any of it right now.

Same goes for regular users: As soon as they got their vote-circle together, they exclude weaker accounts.

Hey, anyways, thanks for the reply.
I meant it when I wrote that you are one of the helpful and competent people here.

Speaking as a regular user, I just vote for the content I like.
