I did not have a bitpay account until I made one for this purchase so I cant confirm your question but I would be surprised if an existing account was not able to be linked.

I have tested the account creation (because I had already another account) and it needs to use the same email but maybe if contacting the support they will be able to link accounts. Either way because their identification system allows multiple accounts from the same user/person, I will just verify another one.
