The old perspective of online public relations versus traditional print and broadcast media is no longer plausible, for public relations professionals the correct approach to communicating the right message to the right target audience must take full account of all of the numerous media formats and blend them together in what is now an integrated media scene. The socialisation of online audiences is now firmly establishing itself as an increasingly potent source for public relations practices. It is the versatile interactivity which carves social media out as distinct from other types of media. Particularly the rise of blockchain social media platforms.

Therefore, it is no overestimation to say our amazing Hive community can be utilised as a very unique audience for the practice of effective public relations. Adopting a corporate perspective many believe the most exciting opportunities are now found in online social media outlets including the world’s biggest social network site Facebook, the blog platform of Twitter and the career based service LinkedIn. Podcasting, vlogging or videocasting is now more important for public relations practitioners than ever before.

The world we now live in offers us a media landscape which is far more intricate than it has been at any other time and public relations is now conducted via a multitude of channels.

Social media has driven the notion of influence to a new level, and PR pros are looking to understand the changes to their industry landscape. In many instances, bloggers have more reach and influence than the trade media, yet they operate on their own terms. They are not necessarily journalists, so they are not bound by any code of conduct.

How Hive Can Take Advantage

In my opinion while Hive might be an exclusive platform there is still an audience here that public relations practitioners will find appealing. The Hive community is also growing and any platform nearing one million active users tends to prick the interest of public relations practitioners. As Hive continues to develop and raise its profile more and more don't be surprised if certain companies and corporations come wandering our way and realise the potential of Hive to promote their own services.

While we obviously don't want corporates moving into Hive to simply corporatize the platform for their own business needs, we should also not be averse to them becoming an active member of the community. So long as they engage and assimilate into the Hive landscape why not let them use Hive to raise the profile of their company or brand. I believe it would add value to Hive and might even help to raise the Hive profile.
