I want to share a few updates on some Hive-related things I’ve been working on.

Marmot - content discovery tool

In collaboration with @jfufi, I’ve been working on a tool for content discovery. The goal is to create a tool for easily finding noteworthy blog posts that are worth sharing on Web2. Imagine a pack of Marmots scouring the blockchain for content treasures.

You can see the output of this on the HiveToday X feed. When the marmots bring home a great blog post, a button blasts it out to the X-averse. The focus is on posts from Hive witnesses, proposals, projects, and sometimes the trending feed.

A couple years ago, I regularly published a weekly newsletter called @HiveToday, but I could not sustain it. A large part of the weekly time commitment was content discovery. It takes time to look for updates from various projects and other newsworthy items.

As the Marmot hive grows stronger, I hope that long-form HiveToday makes a comeback. The mission behind HiveToday is to provide a concise, curated digest of important happenings around the Hive network. For folks who don’t have the attention to look at Hive every day. I think the mission is still relevant.

SPK Network

The SPK Network is running a 2-week testing sprint, with some cash prizes for testers reaching certain milestones. I have been following this project for a long time and testing at different stages.

The new test-net brings together multiple components - Honeycomb, ProofOfAccess. The launch of this new test-net is an exciting milestone. This is a complex system and needs more testing, before it can reach wider adoption.

I spent a little time here poking at the SPK software and reported a few issues.

VSC Network

Pizza.vsc has rejoined the latest VSC test-net. You can view the VSC node list on Techcoderx. https://vsc.techcoderx.com/witnesses

VSC is seeing good progress in terms of development and adoption. In May 2023, when I first stood up a VSC node , there were < 10 nodes in the network. March 2024, when I joined the new VSC testnet there were 43 nodes. Now there are 46 nodes. Growth!
