Yes, decentralization requires a lot more responsibility on all levels.
During the takeover of Steem, we saw just how important it was for each and every individual to participate in the defence of Steem.
Now that we are in an ecosystem without a centralized company within it, the entire role and responsibilities of that centralized company have passed on to all the people with stake.
No matter if that stake be smaller or larger, it is stake and that stake along with the responsibilities it brings with it are to be used wisely.
Otherwise we will not move forwards from where we were before the takeover. Our responsibilities as individuals are now at a whole new level.
It is up to each and every one of us to participate in all aspects of this endeavour.
There is NO central body/entity that can control anything unless we the people let them do that.
This is the difference.
I am not talking about a “revolution” as each revolution ends with bloodshed, I am talking about direct participation in all elements of our ecosystem.
Our ecosystem includes many factors:
- A diverse community of peoples
- An economy
- Rules & Laws set out in the code
- A voting in of those who decide on what code (laws) gets accepted or not
- A rigorous business environment
These are just some of the things that our ecosystem includes and sure as anything, the term “governance” is applicable.
If we want to see changes to what was there in Steem prior to the fork, then we need to appreciate the fact that we all share a part of the responsibilities to make these changes happen.
There are those that believe in the theory of some roles within our ecosystem outweighing others in importance.
However, this elitist mentality is something that was not appreciated by many of the stakeholders in the past and from what I see it is still not appreciated, nor shall it be appreciated in the future.
Our ecosystem is a lot more than just one of the elements listed above, in fact it includes a lot more than the list above and each and every one of those elements is an undeniable important factor of what shall make or break Hive.
We do not have the luxury of point the finger at “Stinc” any more, the only person each and every one of us can point the finger at is the person we see in the mirror in the mornings.
Please don’t shoot the messenger.
This post is not directed at any one person or individual by name, but at every single person and individual that holds stake.
We are in somewhat “unchartered waters” as far as decentralization goes.
This is the first time in the history of blockchain and crypto that a community stood up against centralization and came out of it as the victor.
We now literally have the almost perfect opportunity over the coming months to make a truly decentralized model of governance, cleaning up all the “bugs” in the former law/code that was by no means leading towards anything resembling decentralization.
For this to happen it is literally up to each and every person.
Your voice matters.
Make it heard.
Do not shut up and put up with the rotten leftovers from Steem. We can remove the rotten bits and then move forwards towards to a full recovery and even bigger and better things than what were ever possible or imaginable in the past.
Each and every one of us is responsible for what happens in the future of Hive.
Let’s not waste this opportunity to make history and show the rest of the world how it can be done.

I hope people can get past the walking life attitude of "My Vote doesn't count" and vote for witnesses, or vote via a proxy. PeakD has a great way to track who the witnesses are and what they are up to. Build yourselves a feed list of witness. I have my Witness Type list being built now. In another two weeks I hope to have run across a few more that are posting and or commenting. I am adding them to my list. This will let me see when the time comes which witnesses are active community wise, (important to me), and then I can look at who they vote for if I do not have 30 or however many we will be able to vote on in the future, (I hope the number goes down). Finding the behind the scenes witnesses will be very hard for me to do, but that is what looking at who the ones I want to vote for comes in handy. If I trust them enough to give a vote, I think I can trust that they have made some wise choices for those witnesses that work behind the scenes and do not post often.
