Sweeping Things Under The Rug – YOUR VOTE COUNTS

in #hive4 years ago (edited)

One of the biggest issues most people on Steem had over the past four years is the fact that there was an impression that many issues were swept under the rug.

When talking about this, it is difficult to satisfy anyone involved, as what may be considered “prioritizing“ to some, to others seems to be „avoiding the issues“. So there is no way that anything can be done in a manner to satisfy all onlookers nor parties directly involved.

Now that some of the major factors in our governance have changed in Hive, whereby there is no centralized entity looming over the future of any decision, but rather voters/stake holders who do have the power to change things. We proved that this is the case when we put a stalemate on the governance crisis on Steem. We now are dependent upon direct participation in the decision making process to see all those issues that needed addressing to finally get put on the “to do list” and finally get done.

However, there still seems to be somewhat of an attitude left over from Steem whereby the sentiment “my vote can’t change anything” is lingering around among many people.

If we are to strive for pure decentralization, then we all have to do our bit to make it happen.
Part of that “bit” is to use our stake/voting power to express ourselves, as we all did when it was needed to ensure the governance of Steem does not become a puppet of one centralized authority.

We have the power to do it, we have the RESPONSIBILITY to do it and we have a vision of decentralization for which to do it for.

Waiting on others to do things for us, to make decisions for us is not = “decentralization”.
That is just a copy paste of the fiat world aka real world governance models.

The change is up to us.

Can we make it happen? YES.

Pretty much.

However, there still seems to be somewhat of an attitude left over from Steem whereby the sentiment “my vote can’t change anything” is lingering around among many people.

That's not the only sentiment lingering. Am hoping that there's work being done in the background that will help ease fears people have that this is pretty much exactly the same thing in a different chain.

Every day

i.e.

https://hive.blog/hive-139531/@quochuy/more-hive-blog-and-hive-wallet-contributions

constantly looking at ways to better everything that can be done, from the little things that raise user awareness, i.e. the quicklinks on the front end, to a lot more work on the back end to ensure all the bugs and things that are "the same" as was to be fixed towards a long term decentralized chain.

I know about that kind of stuff :) I meant more with people thinking that this place isn't actually decentralised and is in fact ruled by an ogliarchy that will do anything and everything to remain in power at any and all cost, and that there is censorship going on (you can't argue with them because they have decided that their narrative is the truth that no one wants to hear). I'm hoping the people that are much smarter than me have system-level ways of resolving that kind of thing.

Maybe if there is another fork and more "free money" gets airdropped to all those that think that way, they may start thinking differently!

idk,

PS. couldn't resist, can't fix me, nobody can.

LoL!

Nah I think they're just idealists with solid ideas of how they want things to work :)

Yes, the stalemate in Steem proved that our witness votes count. Every little stake means something with that vote. The faster people realize this the better Hive will become and the more it will move toward a community platform.

Well said @jackmiller. We all have the power and the responsibility to influence decisions made on the chain. The only thing I would add is that we all also have a voice which we can use to influence change as well.
