What Does Hive Mean to Me?

in #hive4 years ago

An interesting question posed by @theycallmedan a few days ago. Having been part of the Steem community for almost 3 years now, I've seen ups and downs both on this social networking platform and the decentralization movement alike. From a hardcore enthusiast to nihilistic and landing somewhere closer to the former, I see Hive as a fresh start for many frustrated individuals.

The underlying ideology remains consistent, with what seems to be a few roadblocks removed and also a few more springing up. Removing stagnation that had formed and underlying contempt that you could feel from individuals throughout the Steemit ecosystem feels like removing the lead weights from your shoes. On the contrary, due to the actions the Hive community must remember that for every action there is a reaction and if the community thinks it's going to be as simple as fastening your seatbelt while we prepare for liftoff, I suggest checking the tint of your glasses and checking back into reality. There are many challenges that this community will have to overcome, both intrinsically and externally if we are to MAGA MHG.

There are several aspects that plagued our former ecosystem; constant bickering, downvoting, revenge voting, allegiances and pettiness which detracted focus and kept us moving in circles. Those are challenges we still face. However, having said that, seeing the quick mobilization of a community to call out and act upon poor decision making of those in charge showed me that there is still hope that when we put our minds together, great things are possible.

So, while I remain skeptical of the future success of Hive, I am cautiously optimistic that we can learn from our previous mistakes, but past grievances behind us and focus on the road ahead.

And if nothing else, even if it's only for a little while, my coin bag filled up a few more rungs.
