Is There A Soundcloud Type dApp On Hive?

I hadn't heard of dApps until a few days. But I've come to realise that there are quite a few on the Hive blockchain. I know there's a video sharing dApp that's very similar to YouTube. But I was wondering if there is anything equivalent to Soundcloud on Hive? Or if anyone is developing one?

I'm asking this out of curiosity more than anything, but also because I know a few people who created music, myself included, who use services like Soundcloud to publish their songs. The problem with Soundcloud is monetising your music. Soundcloud gets the traffic but unless you pay for a premium account, you get nothing (unless things have changed since I last looked) even then the chances of making anything are small.

Although I have no idea how the blockchain creates crypto by people creating videos, blogs etc on Hive, it would seem that a music sharing dApp similar to Soundcloud would be a great fit. Musicians would get rewarded for what they create, and listeners would be rewarded too, by earning Hive.

I guess the biggest problem for anyone developing a dApp like this would be copyright. It's fine all the while people share their own creations, but if people were to share covers it would cause all sorts of problems.

I may be talking nonsense, in fact I probably am. I may have completely misunderstood how things work. But I know if there was a Soundcloud type dApp available or being developed, I for one would use it. I guess there are many thousands out there who would too.

I suggest https://D.tube
You can link your D.tube account with Hive and D.tube will automatically make a Hive post.

Thank you, I will check it out.

It's not on the Hive blockchain, but Audius aims to be the Web3 Soundcloud, I know little or nothing about it other than it appeared in one of my Web3 feeds.

I had a look at Audius and it looks really good. however, I found an article online that suggested that it had problems with people posting copyrighted material. The big problem is that they can't remove anything that breaks copyrights because it's on a blockchain, and I would guess that makes it very attractive to anyone who wants to earn crypto off of someone else's work. So perhaps a Soundcloud type dApp on hive may not be such a good idea!

Copyright material is going to be a problem with Blockchain, IPFS and BTFS in general. In theory we should be able to self moderate though, and potentially implement something like YouTube's Content ID to manage DMCA violations. I wonder if the @threespeak and @dtube folks have got answers about this already.

I wondered that. It's easy to lift a video from somewhere and post it. I haven't looked at any of the video dApps yet. I wonder if they have a problem with people uploading movies? I think YouTube still struggles to keep them off their platform. I guess it must happen to articles too. There's always someone who will pinch someone else's work no matter what format it's in.

That's an area I need to dig into a bit, I know the downvote system can be used, however it can result in retaliatory down votes.

Thanks, I will check it out. It will be interesting to see what they have done even if its not on the Hive blockchain.
