Among various blockchains and what they have to offer, HIVE attracted me the most, because it balances freedom with the community governance. In other words, you can post and do pretty much anything, but the public has the power to downvote if what you do is genuinely bad or harmful, and as far as I know if you were a whale it won't automatically make you a privileged one in a social sense. Yes, a whale can influence the payout and maybe visibility more than the others, but the social and technical mechanisms don't allow them to take the absolute control. Their control is rather "localized", they don't appear to be capable of taking over the blockchain one day. The witnesses system is nice too, and the way everything in the HIVE is organized the votes for witnesses are fairly democratic, as it appears difficult to auto-vote anyone, because it would be obvious more than anything else. Yes, higher HP means more power, and you can buy HP, but it's hard to abuse, first of all because you have to invest quite a sum to get bigger HP, and then you must produce high quality content in order to at least compensate what you have spent, which one-day abusers won't care to do, and if they try, they usually fail, from what I know. After all there are hive watchers too, who observe such cases.
By contrast, I’ve seen blockchains where governance or social features failed. For example, Steemit was taken over by centralized stake, which led to Hive’s creation. EOS ended up dominated by colluding whales. Other projects, like STEPN or BitClout, turned social interaction into gambling with little to no community control or value. Compared to that, Hive feels like a healthier balance between freedom, governance, and sustainability.
Hive's payout system cannot really be gambled or turned exploitative. It discourages users who come here for big money and don't care about the values the community has. Payout is a good motivational bonus, but not the purpose, and this is what makes Hive a healthy ecosystem. We live in the world with ever-increasing censorship of the internet, as well as government or even corporate surveillance and all that comes with it, and with the Hive we can be free from this, which is awesome and should be our priority now over monetary speculations.
I am still new to Hive, but I tend to study something at least a bit before engaging deeply, and from what I've seen and learned, Hive did not disappoint. I'm in! :D
