I asked ChatGPT why Hive cant compete with legacy social media platforms.

in #hivelast year

Hive isnt only a social media platform but social media apps are the main drivers of adoption on Hive alongside Splinterlands.

As we know AI is a big deal nowadays with discussions about how it can be used being the primary topic.
So I wanted to see could it do a simple competitiveness challenge for Hive vs legacy social media.
I wanted to see the advantages and problems Hive was facing and why it, right now, isn't competing vs Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
But if im being truthful, I also wanted to see if ChatGPT would confirm what I have been saying for years in a subtle and not so subtle ways.

It did.

If someone asked you why Hive isnt making the likes of Elon Musk and Zuck sweat from fear of losing their users to Hive. What would you say?

If you said that its because of bad UX you would be right.
The core reason why Hive is struggling in user growth stems from that simple fact.

OUR UX IS BAD.

You can add as many features as you want, you can talk peoples ears off about censorship resistance, freedom of speech, the monetary angle. None of that matters if their experience using Hive is bad. EVERYTHING STARTS AND ENDS WITH THE USER EXPERIENCE. Its who you build for and who you need to understand.

The 3 biggest culprits right now.

  1. Account creation.
  2. Lack of tutorials.
  3. Key management.

To get the obvious out of the way...

Multiple keys are an utterly pointless feature for new users.

  1. They dont understand their point or have a need for them.
  2. There is nothing in their account to secure.

Multiple keys are a "pearls before swine" type of feature that needs to come into play much later.

When it comes to a practical solution to all those 3 things I listed above and what ChatGPT is talking about here, it has already been proposed. We know what needs to be done, someone just has to do it.
Its been called a few different things. "Lite accounts", "Guest accounts".

These "LITE ACCOUNTS" would be a system of custodial accounts adopted by all dapps that would be created simply through a facebook, twitter, gmail account. The account holders would go through various tutorials to learn the platform.
Once they are ready they can upgrade their accounts, "Evolve them" and receive their keys.
This could be gamified in certain ways.

You once were a useless Magikarp, now youre a Gyarados.

Lite accounts fix:
  1. Onboarding and account creation.
  2. They fix initial user experience. You can program that only Lite accounts see the tutorials.
  3. Retention.
  4. Marketing. Now you can finally use standard marketing practices to attract users because now theres a chance they stick around.

I consider this the most important feature we can get on Hive in the near future. We have 7 years of one approach not working. Its time for a new approach.

Sort:

Who would have thought 🤔

We've only been saying it for years. lol

There is no doubt that at this time High is still very good and working than Facebook and other platforms and people want to work on it because those who work hard get this reward. Everything takes time to become well-known, the way we are seeing it now is that if the Hai team promotes it, we will see a lot of big investors coming in the coming days. Presently hive are only promoted by its users the way I am working on it I have asked my boss friends and cousins to work on it as well. His team should also promote him. If they do it this way, in the coming days we will see it become more popular all over the world.

Well said. Lowering the bar for entry would be work well done.

Hive is really hard and complex to understand and for someone to just start and begin to enjoy it immediately. It take too much of ones time to learn the clear and hidden ropes around here.

It is too hard and complicated. Problem is that we dont listen to new users here on Hive or find their input valuable. That is wrong.
Their input is many times more valuable than is any of ours that have been here for years when it comes to this topic.
We are used to Hive, the good and the bad. They are not.

Lite accounts fix:

They also allow a way to get rid of accounts that will never be used due to people deciding that they just don't have the patience to build a life here

This post has been manually curated by the VYB curation project

Exactly. The front end would just delete them.

The account creation I agree is still a pain even though I have been on Hive for over 5 years and still struggle to create accounts for newbies, it is, in fact, a moment I dislike when I have to help in creating a Hive account.
Let's get the account creation as simple as possible.

As for the keys, I like the idea you proposed, the keys can be overwhelming but the security side of it can't be overlooked.

New users dont need the keys. They dont understand them nor is there anything to secure on an empty account.
If they want a Hive account right away, theres already a way to get it.

ChatGPT doesn't talked about one of the most important aspect , which is promotion, that result in us lacking behind, I haven't seen much promotion from the Hive team on the Social media or TV. We are just growing from the promotion done by us, one person to another.

Promotion cannot work when you have bad UX.
You can spend money and get a new potential user to the platform through promotion but if the UX is bad they wont even go through the account creation process.

who are the "Hive Team?"

I can tell that as a new I had to look around for tutorials on how to format post, rules for posting, also creating an account compare to mainstream social media is complicated, not difficult, also the Ui is easy for people who is familiar to posting content on cms like wordpress, Im not saying the Ui is bad for me its not but yes for traditional users at first might be just too much, thx for sharing ✌️

A tutorial should be implemented that Lite accounts would go through till completion explaining all those things not understood.
Once the tutorial is completed the new user can opt into a normal Hive account.

Ai involvement or integration in web 3.0 can maximize user experience by removing some of manually done tasks which are a bit complicated for new users... ChatGPT is on Point There... Tho Once someone get used to with this environment than it becomes easy!
