💉 Flew Shot March 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣1️⃣ 03/22 Monday Hive Blog Post - JP Steinberg
Flew Shot is the title of my serial posts about whatever random things a g'won. From writing about blogging to promoting my podcasting career, curating music & art to writing about sociopolitical issues, I'll create one of these at least weekly, often more. I will also sometimes use specific tags and communities for these posts.
Another Monday Post.
I've been talking a lot of shit about running a delegate-a-thon on my weekly show lately. Well, the time has come. It's not just going to run during the show, the links and solicitations will appear throughout my blog quite regularly until we hit a goal. That goal is ONE MILLION HIVE POWER, also called HP. I suppose I should explain what delegation means here on Hive for those who are reading this post who've not joined the platform yet and have no idea what the hell I'm going on about.
See, on Hive you can earn crypto for posting, commenting and upvoting. Each time a post or comment is made, if users support it with upvotes (a fancy name for likes), that post or comment increases in value. Then, seven days after it was created the platform pays the creator and some portion to each of the supporters, also knows as curators. As your account accrues more value, your HP increases, and you can increase it by powering up all of your liquid Hive and by buying more Hive. Your Hive and HP is yours to do with as you wish. One really cool thing we can all do here is delegate some of out HP to someone else's account. This means they get to "borrow" it and use it as it were their own until you take it back.
But don't worry, they can't just take it and spend it. The only thing delegating does it increases the HP of the account you delegate to for the period of time you decide. So, in essences, it allows them to increase the value of their upvote and leverage that upvoting power to support other accounts and even do some self voting and increase their own actual account value. Your delegated HP stays locked in as HP and cannot be powered down by the account you delegate to. It is perfectly safe there until you remove it and place it back into your own account.
If you're wondering why anyone would delegate away their HP rather than use it themselves, there are a few reasons. I would say the most common reason is to support one particular blogger or a community here on Hive. If you're a small fish and you have very little HP it might not really make a dent when upvoting. However, if you and dozens, even hundreds of others all delegate a small amounts of HP to one account, in theory, that account can then leverage the strong upvoting power to turn around and support all of its delegators and any other users it wants.
What I intend to do is save most of my voting power for Post Up every Thursday. That doesn't mean I won't use it on other days, but from Wednesday afternoon until showtime I will allow my VP to reup so that participants and delegators can reap the rewards. Also, once the actual HP in my account grows to a significant amount whereby I can hand out fat upvotes without delegations I will end the delegate-a-thon and remind delegators to to take their HP back if they so choose.
Below is a new section you will see on all of my posts from now on where you can click a link to the amount of HP you'd like to delegate to this account. Be sure to leave a comment here letting me know you've delegated so I can keep track and say thank you. I will also be giving credit to all of the delegators on my weekly curations posts. Thank you in advance for your incredible support. Even if you can't delegate, your engagement means everything to us.
We are currently running a delegate-a-thon with a goal of reaching ONE MILLION HIVE POWER. The HP will be used to reward all of he participants on Post Up, our weekly live curation podcast on @msp-waves. The links below will take you to hivesigner, a secure way to delegate your HP to any user. You can delegate for as long as you wish, for it to be effective we ask that you do so for at least a month.
After clicking the link check the value, you may change it to any amount you desire. Enter your Hive username and use your Private Active Key to delegate. Please be sure to leave at least 50 HP in your own account. Also, new delegations override any old ones. If you need help feel free to leave a comment or contact us on Discord - Movement19#0266.
