The News
I still cannot bring you great news about $HIVE. It may have hit an all time low this week, but is still doing better than the legacy coin. I have my old scripts for this chart and the #britlist working again to make life easier for me.
I really think we need to talk up the apps/dapps we have on Hive. Not everyone is a a blogger, but many like games and other activities.
- HiveWord from @beggars is a nice alternative to Wordle. There is the option to play it competitively for rewards.
- HivePredict is also from @beggars and is a prediction market. As the footie World Cup has just kicked off you can bet some crypto on that.
- scrobble.life from @acidyo is one I was excited to see. I have used last.fm to log my music listening for many years, but that relies on a company storing the data. Whatever is on the blockchain can be used by anyone, forever. The service also allows you to log movies, TV, books and more. You can use it to post comments and reviews as Snaps or posts. It also has some puzzle games.
- @liketu has had some recent work. If photos are your focus then it could be worth a look.
- @nuthman has a dashboard to check on your account. You can see your HP going up in real time and you can also look across multiple accounts.
Friday Follows
- Although we have never met @bozz feels like an old friend. He is a regular poster who usually has some investment thoughts each Friday. He is a founder of The Pub community.
- @selfhelp4trolls is a musician based in Japan. He posted about daily life as an independent musician.
- @thetroublenotes have an innovative new album out. It combines music and storytelling.
- @blocktunes are busy building a platform for musicians and fans. This week we heard about AI songwriting tools and tipping.
- @starkerz is always looking to innovate. He is working to make signups easier and quicker.
- On the topic of signups @hivepostify are looking for delegations to bring in more people. Of course they have to show that those users will add value to Hive.
Hive In The News
I keep an eye out for mentions of Hive on news sites. Obviously the name does not make that easy, but I find the odd one. openPR has an article about something called Blazpay, but then it mentions Hive too. I have to assume it is our Hive as it mentions 'decentralized social media', but there is no link to any of the front ends.
At least they have some positive things to say:

The Dog House
As I had got @hivesql working again on my new PC I was trying some queries. You really can find all sorts of things if you know some basic SQL (structured query language). I did a simple query to see what new accounts were being created and I found a lot with the same recovery account that looked suspicious. It looks like they are getting lots of mis-spellings on a few names, including a former whale who upset a few people with their curation.
They have created about 1600 accounts over the last year. There is a chance that someone is doing this to prevent others getting those names, but it does look suspicious. It also shows that anyone could be doing this. If you have enough HP then you can claim accounts in exchange for resource credits. I have a few hundred account creation tokens myself, but I try to use them responsibly. I have no interest in trying to scam Hive, but others have less scruples.
In any case I would advise you to double check what accounts you send funds to. Accounts like those in the screenshot ought to be blacklisted for @peakd and other dapp transfers.
I actually think that accounts should cost more as they are potentially very valuable. That can be an issue for those with very low incomes, but there are schemes to help them out. We already have some where you can create a 'light' account for nothing, but have to perform some actions to prove you are for real.
The End
I hope people are still finding value in Hive despite the low price. That can take many forms, but the engagement is a key factor for me. Like @bozz I have a decent job and so do not take anything out of Hive, but I still appreciate that some have to. We have to achieve some balance of investors and earners.
I am still looking to go to @hivefest and am awaiting more details. There has been discussion on what should get funded. Taking funds out of the DHF is controversial.

Exams are ongoing, so onboarding has not started yet. When they finish, I am going all in. Pakistan has a large audience that has not come to Hive yet. I want to be the bridge that brings them here.
I appreciate the support. It genuinely helps more than people realize.
I wish you all the best with this. We do need people putting in the effort to build the community. I hope you can get these new people working together to help each other and engage with others. Maybe some of them can help in other ways so it is not just you. Doing this with exams going on cannot be easy.

I think there's all sorts of shifty stuff going on that most will not notice like those people who create loads of crap comments that they vote up. HiveSQL lets you investigate more.
I like the amount of tools we are starting to get at our disposal for stuff like this.
It was good to see your scripts were working again.
Embarrassingly, I'm using a spreadsheet to produce This Week's Top Hivers by Reputation report. I looked at a Hive SQL tutorial, but I felt that my computing capacity and my programming skills weren't up to it. I use MySQL on my website, and I have a basic understanding of Python.
You may be able to extract data with some SQL. Then you may be able to add more analysis. My Brit List script does quite a lot and took a while to write, but now it's easy to run. I only run it monthly as not much changes in that time.
Thanks, Steve. I'm thinking of changing my Rankings by Reputation report to monthly for the same reason. There was only one swap and no other changes in the top 25 this week.
you see, i really don't understand why anyone would want more than one account.
There can be lots of reasons. Some people want to do different types of posts or may use it to run a community. I did @tenkminnows to support small accounts and people can delegate to that so I do not benefit. I have no plans to take anything from that account. There is the risk that some could use it for spamming and fraud so that needs to be spotted and dealt with. Squatting on typos is common on the web too so we should not be surprised to see it on Hive. Anyone can create as many accounts as they want via RC or by paying so that is why I think there should be more of a cost.

Interesting idea about making new accounts more expensive. Here's an idea.... instead of using RC to create an account, it costs $10. Then, those $10 are used to buy HIVE (which gets around 250-300 at current prices) which are automatically powered up.
That way, people have to spend real money to buy accounts but a genuine new account comes pre-loaded with enough HP to make voting worthwhile, and because it is HP, it can't just be pulled straight back out again. We could even code new accounts that if the KE ratio is bad enough in the first 6 months or year it locks power downs.
I can see some merit in that. Anything that gets people buying into the actually economy is good. It's in their interest to add value.
