Follow Friday: Stepping up

The News

I see that $HIVE hit an all time low this week and has not improved much since then. The 'legacy coin' is still running in parallel at an even lower price. People will blame the Hive issues on various things, but it is obviously not unique. I have said it many times, but each of us can try to help my promoting the platform. More active users could help, but quality is vital too. We need compelling reasons for people to be looking at content on Hive and to consider investing in it.

Tomorrow starts a new month and is an opportunity to earn a @hivebuzz badge with HPUD. It has never been cheaper to buy $HIVE so you could give your account a boost.

Friday Follows

Hive in Meatspace

@louis88 posted about an event in Dortmund that offers another opportunity for Hivers to meet up. There will be other crypto projects there so maybe we can persuade some to blog on a crypto platform.

The Dog House

This is another case of us all getting things wrong. I was inspired by this post from @ecency. All these projects that we use and enjoy on Hive will have associated costs. Hosting a site that may need a lot of storage is one of those, but if we expect people to put in lots of hours then that has costs too. We are fortunate that so many people are willing to give their time for free, but some do it as a job.

Some projects ask for funds from the DHF via proposals, but that can be controversial. A few big accounts have big influence there, but each of us can make a difference. You can even vote up the Return Proposal to raise the threshold. Only four projects are currently being funded.

Our stake gives us power in various ways and we should use it for more than just personal gain if we want Hive to prosper. You can vote up witnesses who you think do a good job. They have their own bills to pay. On your posts you can set beneficiaries to share the rewards. Of course rewards are currently pretty low, but it can add up and if the price goes up then the value increases.

Nobody is automatically entitled to rewards on Hive. It is at the discretion of the community and many of them will check on how you behave before they vote. There is the KE factor that shows how much of your rewards stayed on Hive. They may also check on how you vote and generally engage.

I get good support here, but that is down to being very engaged. I have attended and organised meetups. I have also run some little projects of my own that take no external funding apart from some delegations and I do not expect to profit personally from them. I will be writing more about my general experiences in an upcoming post to mark ten years on Hive.

I think in general that you get out of Hive what you put in. We are a small community and those who try to spoil things will be noticed. You can also get noticed if you build something that helps us. That can be a community that brings in new people. Meetups can be just a few people and have minimal cost, but they have great value so if there is nothing happening locally to you then try organising one yourself. It really is not hard.

Hive has endured for a decade and that is largely down to people being willing to contribute something. There may be tougher times ahead so will you step up?

The End

I will do another #BritList this weekend. I have done that every month for years. It may have value for others, but I enjoyed the technical challenge of automating it. I have yet to get into 'AI' coding though as I am 'old school' on that front.

I have also done these #FollowFriday posts pretty much since I joined the blockchain and I enjoy finding things to write about. I will miss plenty so am always happy to see others sharing news and suggestions of cool folk to follow.

Happy Friday and Hive five!

Great Friday Follows and some good point on Hive. I tend to avoid watching the price completely until the market turns bullish. That's when we will have the confirmation about the Hive blockchain future... and its cycles.

It is a bit dispiriting to see it so low, but then I get excited by all the development. That gives me hope.

I replied to another post about how closely STEEM has traded. It is very strange in a lot of ways that they have somewhat mirrored each other like that.

I assume there are people who trade both, but it should be obvious that one has much more going on than the other. I think we should welcome some people over, but others bear long grudges.

Are other cryptocurrencies running low? If so, I think it will be some while before things improve. Ignoring that possibility, I transferred some more HIVE into my wallet this week.
I was sorry to see that your current HiveWord streak ended today. I came close to breaking my streak because the answer was a word I didn't think existed.

I don't watch other coins much as I'm not trading. My focus is on Hive.

I don't worry too much about my streaks, but I've had some much longer ones on Wordle

My wallet dropped sub 10k briefly the other day, and I was thinking how it's dropped to 25% of it's peak and when I had much less stake. But I'm not going to fall in love with my wallet, because the end game isn't here yet. It is what it is, and even if I end up with just 1k, that's more than what I would have if I wasn't on the chain.

I've noticed the drop in mine too, but I can't do much about it. I'm still not powering down.

Update: @steevc, I paid out 13.271 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 8 comments in this discussion thread.

Hope there will be people always willing to step up, create, build, and support others on HIVE.

Hope may not be enough. We should each do what we can.

I see that $HIVE hit an all time low this week and has not improved much since then.

It's really sad the situation... More things like HPUD would help :)

We need people to be buying. I have to admit that I am not right now, but I will look into it. I need to find simple ways to do it.

Yeah, but how to do it it's the problem... Increase the network demanda for RC; Benefits related to the HP amount like HBD interest. Some examples, but I'm sure there many more if we think about it.

I'm afraid Hive prize is not recovering soon

That whole BTC thing seems to have dragged everything down. :P
