Follow Friday: When growth?

in #hive • 2 days ago

The News

The $HIVE price is fairly stable lately, but still below the legacy crapcoin. There was some glitch with the $LEO price. I was away last weekend, so I did not do a post then and missed that.

Prices from @coingecko

We had an update from @blocktrades with lots of code improvements. These may not directly affect all users, but it is important to make the code more resilient and efficient. Some will be useful to those building on Hive.

I am always wondering where Hive growth could come from. I think it could be in specific niche interests. There are massive communities on reddit and FB around topics most of us will not have even heard of. If some of those came to Hive it would make a big difference, but we need to make them aware that there is an alternative.

I have been finding posts relevant to cross-post in the Music Technology community created by @nicklewis as I have been playing with some gadgets. We have a fair few Hivers into synths and electronic music. People will be interested in what others use to make music.

Friday Follows

  • 3D printing is another of my interests and @makerhacks posted about it can earn you freebies.
  • @bozz has been 'vibe coding' a way to view witnesses. This is impressive stuff. We just have to think of what we need.
  • @new.things is a fellow parkrun fan and he has been to lots. He has done posts about places he has visited.
  • I pop into @creativeworkhour when I can. They meet every day on Zoom to chat about what they are working on. It has been run by @alessandrawhite and @bitterirony for years and I met them again in person recently just before they flew back to the US.
  • I did a little video about my latest gadget, but @adetorrent takes this to another levels. He does product review like this with excellent video quality and editing that I can only aspire to. He is creating these videos for a wider audience, but we can show support on Hive too.

The End

Do you worry about the $HIVE price? I find Hive fun regardless of the price and it is still the main place I post and engage online. I find most other platforms frustrating, but the main issue I have here is the lack of content. We need quality across a wide range of interests. We can build our communities to add value. I am not sure how we get the search engines and AI bots to notice them. I think the latter may be more of a factor these days so 'SEO' may have changed. It is not just about chasing our rewards here as we need a bigger audience.

What do you do to increase your audience? Do you post links elsewhere? I expect there can be issues if you post too many links on certain platforms as it may be considered to be spamming.

HIVE is almost 50% up from the recent lows, so that's good.

The HIVE blockchain might be ideal for agents to interact and pay each other. We have no gas fees but we do require some HP to obtain the RCs needed to transact but it is minimal and isn't spent, just staked to earn the constantly recharging RC. We have the ability to do micropayments of as little as a thousandth of a HIVE which is now about $0.00005.

So we have a decentralized database that is almost free to use, and we have payment rails that are easy to use. We just need someone to create a use case for this. And the data can be free form text with embedded pics and videos (like normal posts) with the ability to reply, but it can also be machine readable json data like Splinterlands uses to store its game data.

Maybe that's the answer. Some new game can use HIVE for its item marketplace, storing the data in our decentralized database and having agents to do some market making and whatever else they may be able to do.

So while HIVE may never become a big social network, there really are other things our blockchain might be ideal for, and AI agents using the chain for their database could be one.

Have a nice day!

People are already using it just for carrying data, e.g. the podcast notifier. Micro-payments have generally had issues with fees and speed, but it counters those. The whole landscape is changing fast, but I hope there is still a demand for people actually interacting with each other.

Thanks good mentioning my community and I’m having a bit of a look at boosting it in some way with more content on 3speak, a bit like your video the other day on M-VAVE

I've found a few people with recent synth stuff. It's create some content!

Was that “lets” create some? I’ve just recorded a slightly quirky video, as in the video part of it wasn’t quite what I intended but it works. I’ll upload to 3spk in a few minutes

Thanks, for the mention, another one done this morning, it is getting a bit warm down under so they are feeling a bit harder, but it is all good fun!

I did mine, but it's getting cooler here and I prefer that.

A work week is never complete without your Follow Friday post. It’s lovely to see our friends’ efforts on Hive mentioned.

It’s a dopamine hit to have you shout out @creativeworkhour, @bitterirony, and me.

Looking forward to your park run post.

Great seeing you today! 🎸

I was away for a long weekend and so posted less generally. What is the biggest crowd you have had on CWH?

HIVE is still holding strong above the $0.05 markup which I wasn't expecting with all the turbulences the crypto is experiencing. Maybe we've passed the All Time Lows race and now we are moving to greener pastures.

I'd like to see it a bit higher to boost confidence, but that's up to the markets. We have plenty going and a nice community. We just need more people really.

My inner Stoic tells me to be interested in, but not to worry about the price of HIVE.
I think it's important to have a niche and post regularly.

I get more engagement here than I have had anywhere else and that matters to me. I've run my own blogs, but those are hard to get noticed. I like the community here and have got to know a lot of people. I have several niches as my interests vary.

I've had more genuine interactions here.

I get millions of views on my YouTube Shorts …. There are over 3 Billion people on YouTube and I got a lot of people to join Hive from my YouTube videos. So I recommend people create Short 1 minute videos about Hive apps like Hivesuite.app and include a link to their Hive blog … YouTube is a massive audience all looking for a way to earn a few dollars with their Film, Art, Travel, Music hobbies …. Just a Real World example …

I don't do much on there and don't have many subs. Maybe others can do more with it.

You don’t need a lot of subs. YouTube promotes 1 minute Shorts with music (any music under 1 minute) to their Front page and anyone with a YouTube Channel can get millions of views and thousands of USD $$$. Every day !

Thanks for the shout out! I haven't circled back to it yet to fix some of the errors. I am guessing my credits are probably topped back off by now. That's the problem with AI, especially if you are trying to do it without a subscription.

I'd be interested to know more about the options. Some people run local system, but you need the hardware for that.

The hardware you need is becoming less as time goes by and the models get better. Just access any free online AI like copilot, tell it what hardware you have and what you want to do (coding for example) and it will tell you the best open source model to get and how to set it up. Took me about a half hour to do that.

A good person on here to follow for info on local AIs is @tydynrain who is making great progress running local AIs and agents.

Wishing you all the best!

I need to have a look. My new PC has a GPU that may do something.

You may find the following video useful to understand what various hardware can run when it comes to local AI.

I understand a bit better now. I bought my PC this year, but the high cost of memory limited what I got. I also need to work out what I would actually do with these tools. Generating images, video and music doesn't really interest me, but I might use them for coding.

How much VRAM does your system have, my friend? Using llama.cpp, or one of its forks like ik_llama.cpp, llama-cpp-turboquant, or buun-llama-cpp, it's feasible to run much larger MOE (Mixture of Experts) models than would normally be expected, since part of the experts are kept in RAM/CPU. Models like Qwen3.5 35B-A3B or Gemma-4 26B-A44B are very doable even with 6-8GB of VRAM. And as to coding, that's what I'm doing. I've been working on an autonomous liquidity-pool agent, to assist me in my asset-managing tasks. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Yeah, I think it would be cool to do that, but I just don't have the capacity or know how for it.

You could write a bit about what you use and the limit of a free account if that's what you do. I've seen people say the prices could go up a lot as the companies try to turn a profit.

I've been thinking about that. I was going to do a follow up post, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I’d love to see more posts on this topic.

Where Hive growth could come from?

Agree that niche communities could come at hive and create their own community here too. It would be nice to have some marketing or at least a post somewhere easy to access on how to create a community. I don't know anything about it actually :/

It's really cheap to create a community. The hard part is getting people to join and I don't have all the answers for that.

I think welcoming and giving people a reason to stay is just more important.

Of course, but people need to find Hive first.
