RE: Moving beyond coin voting governance - My Thoughts

in #hive3 years ago

I love the idea that we have several layers of protection. It simply wouldn't make sense for someone like Justin Sun to try to take over Hive. They would lose both time and money in the attempt.

What was the mention about kyc? Is Hive going to require identification to participate in the future?

Sort:

KYC was not mentioned directly; I was just pointed out that could never be used for base layer security. Proof of personhood was mentioned, which tries to achieve a way to tie an identity to an account without need to release photo ID. But those are 2 sep issues that cause 2 entirely separate problems. KYC has the issue of 100% doxxed validators which isn't possible unless you centralize the network. Proof of personhood is not good for base layer because just by being human does not mean you should have a vote in governance; this is because, without skin in the game, the person can sell their vote for pennies profitably.

Thanks for clarifying that :) I certainly hope that the system becomes perfect eventually, if there is such a thing. But until then, we protect our home as best we can. Thanks so much for putting a massive amount of time and energy into keeping Hive safe, Sir.
