The most basic thing Hive needs is a mobile app called 'Hive'. I've seen people learning about Hive (via Twitter for example) only to get confused, because, and I quote, "I can't find Hive in the app store".

Seems like a mobile app called Hive is the easiest way to onboard people that have gotten vaguely interested in Hive, just want to 'download Hive and learn more about it later'. Because most of us are mobile first, many are going to want to discover Hive through mobile first - and will look for 'Hive' because they don't know about Essency/Dapplr/HiveWallet yet.

From the basic app we can then lead them towards the many other Hive services, for example through gamifying learning about aspects of Hive, or even just via a simple FAQ that says 'this is just a basic app but you're now a member of the Hive ecosystem, here's what that means'.

I really like this idea.

Even better if it would work as a cryptocurrency wallet also!

HiveWallet is a great app for using your liquid Hive as currency, but it doesnt show everything. Obviously Esteem is the best choice but they are rebranding to Ecensy and thats still not obvious for noobs. This is a good suggestion. I think apps need to put hive in their search tags, but onboarding from branded dapps is also happening in which case we need to provide support to reverse onboard existing users with accounts they may still not understand.

That's the problem.
No one knows what's what here.
It's so fragmented that all the projects here work against itself.
A newcomer needs simplicity and uniformity.

True but as a decentralized project there is no central place for everything. Anyone can develop and deploy their own project. Here is a few links to help out, feel free to share them and bookmark them for yourself.

Thanks for your effort.
The point wasn't against decentralized.
It's that it takes actions such as yours to spread that information.
That information needs to exist at the entry gates. Or better yet as someone suggested elsewhere, if a mobile app existed, as the greeting that informs user "this is what else is here".

Management of progress here is really bad.
You literally must know who is who..
Then follow those accounts.
But then... You got to follow them of Hive too. Because actual discussion on that progress happens in other places like discord.

This is the fragmentation I refer to.
It's like the big whales DON'T want this thing to become popular.
With reason too.
The rewards will tank hard.

"A newcomer needs simplicity and uniformity."

Maybe, but maybe it's enough to keep the Hive app simple and safe, and point them towards other apps that can execute more 'advanced' functions. We could use the basic app to onboard them to the social aspect of Hive and when they've learned enough they can upgrade to more advanced apps with advanced functionality.

Hi @soyrosa

I also believe the same and we should have an official HIVE mobile application.

In addition, I can say on behalf of Dapplr and the best we can do is rebrand Dapplr to HIVE if community wants. We want the HIVE blockchain to succeed and take over the conventional and centralised social media platforms.

Hey @funnyman - indeed - it could be a great idea to 'adopt' a great mobile app under the Hive name. It would be a very interesting discussion to have - maybe after your app has been used for a few months by iOS and Android users.

A website that actually incentivizes people to share hive content outside of hive.

Have a website where you have ads and ad revenue is used to buy hive and redistribute it (as hive power so it's not insta dumped) to people who had the most pageviews.

On that same website perhaps it could be a community thing where each community owner can decide if he wants ads or not and then he can then decide what to do with the tokens, he would then be incentivized to grow his community (and hive).

At first that same website could just have an upvote bot based on pageviews alone, it would already by a whole lot more productive than the current voting bots.

The incentives are misaligned on hive, and such a website would drastically change how we interact with hive, instead of pandering to whales for upvotes, people would try to get their article trending on reddit/twitter/whatever, which would get some outsider eyes onto hive. Plus we'll have a system where we have some sustainable buy pressure.

Coding it is relatively easy, then for marketing just do what was suggested previously by fredrikaa:

Specify the demographic / topic that we have the best chance of attracting and sustaining despite our limitations and onboarding-obstacles and poor UI (the early adopters are usually fine with that if there's a compelling value proposition or vision).

Find blogs/websites that allow guest writers where the target audience naturally resides, and do a post there (may cost a little bit, but it is the best converting early marketing strategy for any new website by far). Make sure to both share the value proposition/vision they themselves care about, in a story about Hive that is also informative (and doesn't look like just promotion).

Ideally combine that with a targeted effort to onboard creators in that particular niche with a medium following that makes them 1. good enough to provide value, but 2. "bad" enough to care about the low rewards on Hive and time commitment to get started.

We absolutely don't want (as I've seen people suggest we pay a lot of money for in other channels) to do generic Hive promotion/marketing. Because there's very little for new users to find of interest (plus a steep learning curve), your conversion rate will suck. Hence why we ought to focus on one area at a time.

And once this website grows big enough, you could even go and sell ad space directly for hive.

Anyways, we desperately need this kind of efforts, even without the ad part doing what fredrikaa says to grow communities.

I love the idea, but why would a front end sacrifice ad revenue to benefit random token holders?

Much better to include the "burn to promote" feature in the blockchain code and have companies bidding to be on trending. All payments will be burned.

We're quite keen to do this in the future, we mentioned this in our proposal. It takes a step towards allowing valuable content to be rewarded for an indefinite amount of time.

As per @howo's comment, and I haven't done the math, but I wouldn't be surprised if the levels of engagement outweigh any revenue subtracted from sharing.

With the above said, the value of this for Quello will come with more daily active users, so although it's definitely on our radar, there are a few stepping stones before this becomes a part of the site 👍

Looking forward to it !

It's a virtuous circle, give back earnings from ad revenue, people will then be more incentivized to post on your article (free content), and share your website (free marketing + free engagement).

You don't have to sacrifice all of the ad revenue, you can keep some to yourself if you want. And as a whole this benefits you just because you end up making the price for hive grow.

Makes sense.

Oh and btw, "burn to promote" already exists on chain, it's just that the front ends don't really show promoted posts.

I remember it in the promoted tab, was it just condenser showing it this way? If promoted posts were just normal posts, I guess front end devs would have them on trending by default, and would have to code an extra step in order not to show them.

They must be handled differently in the blockchain code at the moment in terms of ranking, and front end devs have to make an effort to include them. This "effort" is what makes or breaks the feature because most devs will just show the posts as they come, and not try to filter.

I'm just assuming, maybe devs are already actively filtering.

Ooo, that is quite compelling!

More ways for community owners and users to create more income streams. I like making money. It sounds like you do too. I, 150%, support this concept!😀

The icing on the cake is the part where people are incentivized to get trending content on more mainstream platforms. That is also pretty frickin' cool.

Imagine if all the people who spend hours making advanced vote trading schemes or trying to abuse free accounts to gain cents were instead spending all that time doing outreach for hive.

I agree it is a way cooler way to exploit the system. 😀

Direct messaging.

I would love an easy direct messaging integrated in peakd + hiveblog.

Basic needs are :

  1. A universal sign on page - please, can we have it?
  2. A user friendly mobile app for new users- I am using @dapplr , it is amazing. Requires some work though.
  3. A basic education page to let new users know the difference between hive blog, peakd and other platforms. I was so confused about these platforms when I joined back in May

Thanks
Ra

What do you mean by "a universal sign on page"?

Means, for new users there is no such page where you can create a new account. I did not know why some pages charge you HP to create a new account and some can do that for free. So, a simple page where users can create an account for free. That page may include FAQs on different types of keys and how to use them. I did not know that I should not be using my master password for everything.

Three of my friends who I on boarded are not active coz they find the platform overly complex.

Posted using Dapplr

Doesn't hiveonboard.com meet those requirements?

Let me know if there is anything I can improve further!

I think hiveonboard.com is the best current option, although I feel some of the explanations & marketing are still a bit too esoteric for the mainstream.

I think it’s problematic that both hive.blog and PeakD direct signups to signup.hive.io; I’d much prefer that to head to a single trusted source like hiveonboard. I feel like the instant bombardment on signup.hive.io of choices where to sign up, with some listing fees, etc. can be immediately off putting to curious potential users.

Good point! I'll work on that in the future.

I'am working together with PeakD team to solve exactly this problem. The next update on will include an improved customer journey and full integration of hiveonbard.com into Peakd.

Amazing! Thank u

That's looking so good! A much simpler and more welcoming start!

This looks exactly like what I was talking about. Users are getting confused with the onboarding process. It is not easy to understand if you are signing up for peakd or hive blog. With this new page, it seems it will be much simpler for users to sign up. As @bryan-imhoff mentioned and as I pointed out in the initial comment, sign up options and fees currently listed make it sound like you have to first earn or buy some HP to sign up.

We need a clear and understandable Token Economics for the Hive Blockchain. We are the only Blockchain Project that has its Base layer Token (HIVE) tied up to one particular DAPP - Hive Blog - even though we have a bunch of DAPPS running on HIVE new users always think about Blogging when joining HIVE but thats not our purpose.
We are a social independent Dapp plattform to revolutionize WEB 3.0 and not just to make Blogging great again.
We need a new incentive model for investors to hodl Hive Tokens just Blogging won't work in the future...and Steem has already proven that.
Cheers everyone!

  • Free direct messaging - this can easily be implemented with the already existing wallet memo system.

  • A more minimal web and mobile app for easy onboarding

  • Leadership?

messaging only works on third party service. Not on the Blockchain. That would be huge spam :D

Open orchard is already working on an in app messaging feature.

Web and mobile display seems okay to me, it depends on the front end youre using

Leadership? This is a decentralized ecosystem. We are our own leaders

Posted using Dapplr

Oh... That's great.

Oh, not direct leadership of course. I totally understand what you mean. All I'm saying is, most cryptocurrencies have someone speaking for them usually the creator. Hive lacks that.
Hence the question mark. It may not even be necessary, besides we are changing a lot of things. :)

@theycallmedan is usually at the fore front. He has the passion, drive, vision, growth mindset, build mindset, and he's pretty cool and knowledgeable. Oh and he's one of the highest holders of hive. He was at the forefront of the war before hive broke out. I think he pretty much fits the cap even if its not his plans

Posted using Dapplr

Is open orchard launched yet? Or can you point me to an announcement post or something. I'd love to check it out.

We need less short form posts.

@darkflame is working on his project @patronpass concept of a decentralized ticket vendor, that has a ticket scalping resistant algo, its just in alpha at the moment but there is a token on the hive engine and I am excited to see what becomes of this.

Hive Browser.

That would actually be great for Hive.

Loan system, its the only advantage other blockchains have over hive

Posted using Dapplr

It is in the work here.

Thank you and amazing. I thought that was a personal project not a Hive sponsored thingy. Good to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yaaaayyyy yessssss!!¡!!excited!!!!!!!!

Posted using Dapplr

A little explanation of how to setup keychain would be good on Hive.io.

Also, a website similar to local bitcoins but for hive would be cool.

Other than that, more and more and more dapps. Preferably from new devs. Games, blogging websites, whatever.
Businesses tend to develop their own on-boarding solutions and attract new users, both of which are great for the whole ecosystem.

The DHF is mainly for Devs with proposals. How about the ability for non dev community members to raise proposals, maybe in a form of bounty so that devs from far and wide can also participate and the first gets the bounty or something like that

Posted using Dapplr

I don't think that the DHF is the correct incentive for that type of work.

Entrepreneurs are risk takers, succeed because they have no choice, and always start for free by providing value.

No success story can start with funding from the DHF, it would be better used for blockchain work and marketing.

I suggested that because sometimes the devs don't see everything. And sometimes the non dev community members have brilliant ideas that can catalyse the growth of the system. Do you get my point?

Posted using Dapplr

Yes, that's true.

I always liked what DLive was doing in the early days something like that here would be cool.

Some of my current thoughts on Hive upgrades...

  1. We need to get on https://www.coinflip.tech/ so we have an ATM option.
  2. Not a CEO, but a face(s) for people to recognize when people outside of Hive see Hive in the news.
  3. The option opt-in to location services so that we may see the nearest Hive users to our location. Or just a directory of sorts that shows people per country/state/etc.

For 2. I think @theycallmedan is that for now

Posted using Dapplr

low cost memo advertisements via bot

Real growth opportunities for content creators who have not been able to invest in stake, for a new user who has not yet decided whether to invest, seeing mediocre content from people known by old take the rewards, can be disappointing and decisive to better leave

Thats their personal problem. I see many opportunities tho, I just see a lot of lazy people

Review of Product / Services , initiated by the sellers, done by consumers.

A replacement for Fundition... but done well this time! Basically apps that somewhat emulate that funding space of KickStarter, Patreon, GoFundMe, etc.

A replacement for Oracle-d, Utopian too

Education at the front, after the onboarding. We as the terminal do a freaking good job but we see a lot that come here for a get rich quick sceme and people need to know that’s not the case so education! Besides that an hive app

  1. A better way to keep track of the progress of DHF project's progress.
  2. DHF support for the new developers / products being built on HIVE. e.g Dapplr, Quello

Some excellent suggestions.
Good move on this post to open up that discussion.

If I were a betting man I'd say DM systems here are long overdue. That them makes sense as a dedicated app to be that network contact hub. That can open up to the actual blogging platform.

AND if someone uses the app just for chat then they need rewards (minor but they add incentive) because every user is securing the network. Even the ones who don't post and forever just observe.

That way the poor countries can really feel appreciated here. Because let's face it. They don't have the elite English level needed to be a top blogger but they do have big networks that they onboard. That's a big win for the platform/Hive but a no win for them and their commitment. So many leave.

Blockchain partnership or interoperability. We're too close to our own circle. We need collaborations.

Also, we lack more on content diversity or integration to other forms of content. So much discouragement to other forms of content because the quality is a priority.

There is no privacy of transactions: We need PRIVACY!

Good day. I also support the opinion of many people here that we need a high-quality Hive mobile application. New users will be happy to start working on the site. Now almost all citizens use a mobile phone, plus take photos right away without a professional camera. This is my opinion, I think so. Thank you for the interesting question you asked. I wish you all a good day.

An easy to find and navigate site where all the apps and tools in the ecosystem can easily be found. They keep cropping up often enough that a month of absence could leave one with some catching up to do.

Without question we need cake.

Brah, Storys obviously

I think we need to move away from Discord as a primary source of socialization. That is what these social dApps are for, isn't it? I feel like it diminishes the unique visitor ebb and flow. That also affects our internet rankings and user retention in many ways. If everyone is in Discord, who is on-chain to add value to posts outside of automation?

DMs and Audio Uploader ie Dsound.

Congratulations @xxxxxxxxxx! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

Dear @xxxxxxxxxx

More than anything, both Steem and hive are mostly missing some solid and updated guide, which would allow new members to learn how to use those 2 platforms.
