The Sound of Rain

It's raining here right now as I write. Not the kind of storm that destroys everything, but the kind of constant rain that makes us want to put on a sweater and headphones.

Then the rain arrives without permission, like it cancels our plans to go out, slows down the pace of the street, makes the world outside a little quieter and grayer. And, in that moment, it gives us the perfect excuse to do nothing. And how wonderful that is.
Rain, for me, smells like wet earth and tastes like hot coffee. It's the perfect setting to curl up in a blanket and watch a movie you've already seen. It's an invitation to read that book gathering dust on the shelf. Or simply to lie down and listen to music, letting your mind wander.
It's also nostalgic, right? Rain has the sound of childhood. Of staying home watching movies on the afternoon session, of the rain cakes your grandmother or mother made. It's a sound that comforts, that embraces, that connects us with a simpler version of ourselves.
Of course, I know that for many people, rain isn't all that poetic. For those who are out on the streets needing to work, for those who live in high-risk areas, the story is different, and it's crucial to be aware of this.
But for those who have the privilege of being safe and dry at home, hearing the rain is a reminder. A reminder that we need breaks. That not everything in life is about productivity and rushing around. It's nature's invitation for us to disconnect from the outside world for a while and reconnect with ourselves.
O Som da Chuva

Sabe aquele som, da água caindo lá fora? Pra mim, é um dos melhores sons do mundo. E eu fico pensando: por que será que um negócio tão simples como a chuva mexe tanto com a gente?
Acho que a primeira resposta é que a chuva força a gente a dar uma pausa. Na nossa rotina maluca de faculdade, trabalho, treinar. a gente tá sempre correndo. A lista de coisas pra fazer nunca acaba. A gente vive com a cabeça no futuro, no próximo compromisso, na próxima meta.
Aí a chuva chega sem licença, meio que Ela cancela nossos planos de sair, diminui o ritmo da rua, deixa o mundo lá fora um pouco mais silencioso e cinza. E, nesse momento, ela nos dá a desculpa perfeita para não fazer nada. E como isso é bom.
Chuva, pra mim, tem cheiro de terra molhada e gosto de café quente. É o cenário perfeito pra se enrolar num cobertor e assistir a um filme que você já viu. É o convite para ler aquele livro que está pegando poeira na estante. Ou simplesmente para deitar e ouvir música, deixando a cabeça vagar.
Também tem uma nostalgia, né? Chuva tem som de infância. De ficar em casa vendo filme na Sessão da Tarde, de bolinho de chuva que a avó ou a mãe fazia. É um som que conforta, que abraça, que nos conecta com uma versão mais simples da gente mesmo.
Claro, eu sei que pra muita gente a chuva não é tão poética assim. Pra quem tá na rua precisando trabalhar, pra quem mora em área de risco, a história é outra, e é super importante ter essa consciência.
Mas, para quem tem o privilégio de estar seguro e seco em casa, ouvir a chuva é um lembrete. Um lembrete de que a gente precisa de pausas. De que nem tudo na vida é sobre produtividade e correria. É um convite da natureza pra gente se desconectar um pouco do mundo lá fora e conectar com a gente mesmo.
