Maybe the private active key that's in the card can be made useless or at least less useful. This could be done by somehow rejecting transfers if they don't meet some criteria. I don't know if there is a way on the blockchain for an account to restrict itself so it can send transfers only to allowed accounts. If you think it's an approach worth looking into, we can ask the core devs if such a functionality exists or can be made.

The other idea is to use the escrow functionality to somehow make a flow that both has a security verification (the escrow transfer is approved if security checks pass) and minimizes trust.

It's a great idea, but it would relay on changing from Permissionless money to Permission money, anyway it's worth to take a look on the different ways that we have to change the way Private Key can be used.
