HiveFest: Big Boy Ticket

Buying the Hivefest ticket

Even though it's going to be expensive, I want to go to Hivefest.
Usually, I have been getting away with buying the cheapest ticket.
This time, while booking, this happened:

@felixxx ranks as 🐬 dolphin! Please grab a regular ticket or higher!

I could just go as @felixxxxxxxxxxxx or any other alias.

This event is crazy expensive, even though I have very little travel cost.
The cheapest hotel they recommend is almost 500€ for the weekend with a shared bathroom.
So just the hotel + ticket comes at almost 900€.

...for a weekend!

I did not become a dolphin (even went orca for a moment) by spending money recklessly.

Previous events

The 3 previous events I attended, were absolutely worth their money.
If I remember right, I payed 111€ for the first event and got 1900 coins on arrival.
... just the dinner at that xxxfest was easily worth 50€ alone.

XXX (Amsterdam)

Amsterdam is expensive. It always was.

I tried the opposite approach when I organized @steem.camp.
I chose the cheapest location and went small instead.
My event was cheap, but also quite small.
There were 12 guests.

I guess, if you want such an event to work, you got to go big.
If you want people to fly in from all over the world, you are probably better off choosing a popular destination over a remote campground in a remote village in rural Germany.

I mean: Hivefest could be (much) cheaper, but would it be as attractive?

Supported Tickets

I feel ok about having bought the cheapest tickets before.

@smooth and @pharesim (among others) had donated some funds and I have no problem with those 2 supporting my attendance.
I do not want @roelandp to come out of this at a loss, though.

I paid for a regular ticket.
Now, I am fully committed. rhyme, lol

Next quest:

Finding cheap(er) accommodation

I am not paying 146€ / night for a shared bathroom.

Sort:

You can see who's committed by checking the wallet of @hivefest. Not many as yet. I am in one of those expensive hotels, the lack of AirBnB's was an oversight when choosing Amsterdam IMO. See you there.

500€ for a shared bathroom is definitely a no for me. Well I do think the adrenaline behind the event would be what makes it worthwhile, some people are also raring to attend after the pandemic shut down everything. I'm happy you can attend by the way.

Thing is: Some of the events start or take place in the Volkshotel.
The bar is there. Most evenings end there.
It's the best place to stay at for Hivefest.

Whatever accommodation I can find, it better be close...
Or I go way cheap and rent a bicycle to commute.

Or I go way cheap and rent a bicycle to commute.

Hahaha, that's probably a great idea, I think accomodation alone takes a lot of money.

Hotel prices for those dates are really crazy.
@sailingroads asked where to stay with a van and I recommended Camping Zeeburg. Maybe that's an alternative for cheaper accomodation, if more people choose to stay there you could at least go with the bikes in a group...

That's a great idea! 😍

Uff... yeah the ticket will be expensive this year, but at least that can be paid with crypto – I have much more of that than fiat, lol.

Check out Meininger hotel in Amsterdam Amstel, if you're fine with hostels. I will be there myself. It's only a kilometer away from the official hotels. I booked 4 nights in a 6 people dorm for 184€ – and that was the more expensive option including free cancelling.

Muy bien amigo que que ya tenga su ticket para el Hivefest que disfrute mucho con los Hivers de todo el mundo la verdad que debe ser una experiencia increíble. Saludos y feliz inicio de semana

Viel Spaß :)

Hivefest is calling, and I like people's preparations for this. We hope to join you guys someday for such a wonderful experience.

Personally wish I could attend but, I have never left my country and leaving the country here is not easy. Always a 90% sure visa reject. Also, I can't afford the expenses.

But I know that for sure, I would attend one day!

I mean: Hivefest could be (much) cheaper, but would it be as attractive?

It would be even more attractive. Many people do not go to HiveFest because of the high costs.

I honestly doubt it.
Most people don't go, because they'd never go.

There are plenty of contests to win free tickets.
Smooth and pharesim donated like 5k each for 'minnow tickets'.

In 2016 @l0k1 hitchhiked from Serbia to Amsterdam and slept outside (In -10°C until I paid for a bed for him) just to visit the thing.

Anyways... back then there were 2 homeless people who made it to the event.

This is very nice of you. Huge respect and huge thank you to you for helping the people in need. You helped many Hive users (including me) in the previous few years.

By the way, I checked @l0k1's recent posts/comments, and looks like he became a victim of mass downvoting, and he left the platform five years ago. This is really sad.

Yeah, he left long ago.
Many things happened.

All in all
I wish you a successful hivefest event and I wish I could attend in the future.🥂🍾
