Been playing around with the Quest 2 and doing some experimenting. The first night I found Inertia and chatted with him for a while.
Tonight I jumped in for a few minutes and hung out with Gandalf.
If you have a VR headset (even if you don't, you can download AltSpace VR and use in 2D mode) hop on and check it out. Add some friends.
If you are in AltSpace VR, put your username in the comments so we can start adding friends. AltSpace VR is the platform being used for HiveFest.
There is no way to search for people, so you need to know the exact name.

You can download AltSpace VR directly on the Oculus Quest 2, Valve's Steam (STEEM), Windows Store, and even for MacOS.

I don't see a linux option.
Shame it's not on Linux. My rarely used Win10 install will get some use for this.
Desktop version seems to be only for Windows Store and Steam but your virtual machine set up should do. @guiltyparties has only Linux too.
I have a dual-boot system. The PC is nothing special, but seems to handle the graphics okay. I just can't justify a VR headset just for this event.
You don't need to use VR set. The Steam app has 2 options to enter. With and without VR set. I have no VR set yet neither. And it worked well and was fun.
I don't think there is a Linux option, but there is a Windows, Mac, and Oculus.
I wonder if the oculus version is running some linux port under the hood?
The Oculus is Android. So in some way it is.

I'm steevchive on there. There was some minimum length for usernames. Will try to join the session tomorrow to see what the interaction is like. I've not actually been in many multi-user online environments such as games, and not one where you can talk to each other.

Don’t fret, 2D works great. You don’t miss much, just a bit of immersion.
I actually use both, a lot of times I just hop in as 2D to do a meeting or goto an event.

Interestingly we are testing a business VR environment currently in my company for meetups etc as an alternative to Zoom etc with Oculus Quest.
