HivePeople: 3 Month Report

I can't believe it's been 3 months since we created our Twitter account and began to do work to improve the Hive ecosystem.

This article details most of the work I've done:

ONBOARDING

Onboarding is a problem that Hiveonboard.com by @roomservice solves (mostly). You can get your personalized referral code and also track the progress of all the users who joined Hive with your referral link.

Number of Users Onboarded by @hivepeople: 29

As you can see, the reply to Andrew Yang yielded the most traction.

I’ve also done a lot of smaller scale Twitter engagement contests that are too numerous to list.
None of this has been paid marketing campaigns, just organic reach. When we get a big campaign created, we would like to apply for funds from the DHF to fund it.

The Hive Marketing discord channel is a working group. There are channels that list Live Social Media campaigns, and channels to put your Hive graphic into. You can see upcoming social media campaigns, and contribute your skills to them.

We have an entire section devoted to onboarding, and a place to put onboarding problems, and onboarding solutions.

Before embarking on any big marketing initiatives and while working with @roomservice, @hivetrending and others, it became clear that some big problems would need to be solved first before any serious attempt to onboard new users was done. Onboarding and retention seem to be the two biggest problems right now in Hive. We have a decent-sized Referral Program campaign created and ready to launch as soon as @peakd integrates the Hiveonboard API.

Through a recent survey I ran on Twitter, I learned that 39% of respondents got stuck and could not post while being a new user and running out of RC:

This was very shocking as I had little idea that this was occurring on a large scale. I knew this would have to be solved before any marketing initiatives were rolled out, and @hivetrending today created a solution using the @giftgiver site.

RETENTION: Users Who Start Out With 0 HP And Get Trapped Quit

Retention is a seperate problem that @giftgiver mostly solves. We still have the issue of not being able to message new users directly once they join Hive though.

THE SOLUTION To Running Out of RC

@giftgiver is a site that gives out free HP to new accounts who can’t post or comment. Go here to get some HP delegated if you’re out of juice: https://giftgiver.site/

Today @hivetrending built a bot that scans the blockchain for accounts who run out of RC or have low RC. A bot delivers a message to the user telling them how they can get help. It looks like this:

Thanks for the shout out!

I managed to convince 5 of my friends to start on the hive. 3 are absolutely flying 1 just getting some traction and 1 is a bit lazy. But the 4 active are enjoying the platform. They all only wish there was a better communication tool between creators you are following as engaging only through messages on the post is very clunky. They all only use their previous media platforms for communication only now as all posting is in the hive

great job!

it's nice when people listen and take it on board. We are on a mission to get more people into the #hive as its such a fertile platform

There is so much good stuff in this post!

@gregg0, @diegoameerali and @vincentpolak, make sure to read through the Hivenoobs series as well.

Really good update here! I think the biggest issue is indeed running out of RC for these new people. Lots quit. It’s challenging because I’m always telling them to engage with others but taking 7 days to get their first post payout is risky to get them more HP. I’m thinking a decent solution is to increase delegations to new accounts to 20 or 25. I’ll have to try that on a fake account and see how many comments I can make after posting an introductory post to see what I’m restricted to for 25 HP.

@giftgiver site gives them 21 HP delegation

you can do a decent amount with 20 HP.....'
But as i said, @hivetrending has solved this by building a bot that locates accounts with low HP, and then sends out a message to go to giftgiver site.

it says this: "@portallake! Are you stuck and can't post on Hive? Go to https://giftgiver.site/ for help."

I think that's a decent way to solve a fair amount of it but hopefully people don't think it's phishing, directing them to click on the link. I would be suspicious with that short message and a link but that's just me lol

yeah good point. what do you suggest?

maybe this: "@portallake! Are you stuck and can't post on Hive? Go to https://giftgiver.site/ for help. If you have questions, go directly to the GiftGiver discord: Link here

I think that's a better message. It’s better to be a little more descriptive or give some options. Having discord in there is going to help a lot I think too.

What's it for?

it's for your account, to give you HIve Power. Without Hive Power, you wont be able to comment very much.

Ah okay, now i get it, i've been meaning to ask. How do i do those anyways? Im kinda new and i really don't know how it all works

Personally, i delegate ten to any new recruit I bring.. if the recruit is serious and his RC credit gets finished, i delegate another ten .. instead of wasting a huge amount on one user who is not serious.

Yeah that’s a good policy if they are brought onto hive by you. At least then you can have a direct line of communication with them. I’m thinking about the people that just sign up on their own without knowing anyone. That tends to be rare but I’ve seen a fair amount of them lately!

Great job team.. we owe it to ourselves to make hive great. I intend to be the person with the highest number of referrals but i seem to be having a problem with @hiveonboard and verification code. They don't send it on time and this makes me loose new users. Thank you for all you do on #hive.

#hive to the world

You are amazing at this, and probably the best effort we have around here for onboarding!

Great progress. Need to keep helping out the new recruits to motivate them. It's all about the people!

Keep up the good work guys

Glad to see all these initiatives that for sure help retention, onboarding and creates a bit of brand awareness

Wow.. this is an interesting work.

Apologies for late comment.
