Ever since I can remember, I've always been amazed with what makeup can do. I've watched videos of makeup tutorials for years now and I can't still get enough of it. I came to know about drag because of it. Makeup artists would often mention RuPaul's drag race and that made me curious and find out what a drag race is.

I've never really watched any of RuPaul's drag race episodes but I've seen a few clips here and there and wanted to watch it live. So when I saw some posts on facebook that advertised RuPaul's drag race Asia tour with Japan as it's first leg, I immediately searched for the details and purchased the cheapest ticket there is that costed me 6,800yen (with tax).
I was expecting some kind of competition from what I saw on some clips. But expectation is really different from reality.
The Venue
My view of the stage. I was seated at the top balcony but I got the front row so I was still able to see everything clearly.
The show was scheduled on August 31st from 7pm to 9:15pm (on a weekday!). And was held in Tokyo Garden Theatre, which I was surprised as it turns out to be a huge venue, it was like they'll be having a concert.
When I arrived, I wasn't that much surprised to see more foreigners than locals. But I did love seeing the locals that dressed up for the show. There were local drag queens as well. I felt underdressed 😆😭. I was so amazed seeing that one very tall person (which I guess was a drag queen) wearing high heels as high as you can imagine on my way. I should have asked for a photo with here when I had the chance 😖
The Show
Honestly, I only know Aquaria in all the performers that came that day. I was expecting to see Plastique Tiara as she was on the poster that I saw. But I guess something came up and they changed the lineup. And RuPaul wasn't there as well hahaha
So as I've mentioned I was expecting some kind of a competition. But that didn't happen. When they came out of the stage, I was already anticipating it but I was still shocked by their outfits (which they slayed by the way!). Especially Bosco on her first appearance and Aquaria on their final act. They were also all so pretty, I loved their looks.

The show centered on Aquaria, which I was happy since I didn't know the others.
It was like humanity is in distress and is living in a dream-like kind of simulation. Think of Matrix, something like that. Mistress was the first to rebel but was caught. Now only Aquaria can save the world with her super C.U.N.T. (I know!)

They incorporated songs that matched the storyline and lip-synced and danced to it. With their high heels and outfit, I was was very confused how they managed to do it. But they were so flawless and never showed any discomfort. Such professionals!
Some time in the middle of the show, they called on to some local drag queens up on stage. They gave some impromptu performance teamed up with one of the professional drag queens each. They were hilarious and I had so much laugh.
Final Thoughts
Although it was not as I expected, I wasn't disappointed since it was so much fun. I did sacrifice a bit of sleep as I got home late and skipped my workout schedule that day. But it was worth it. I would definitely watch them again on their next tour. Maybe I should watch all of RuPaul's drag race episode before that so I can enjoy it more. And then maybe I'll get the ticket with the meet and greet. I'm looking forward to it just thinking about it now 😆

Can’t really relate to drag race but this seems so interesting! Actually even seeing some of the audience dress up is already so fun, how much more to the actual performers.
