Life as a homeschool mom

in #homeschooling7 years ago

Several years ago, my husband asked me to homeschool our 2 children. Eventually we had 7. I agreed and entered into an adventure that held many unusual incidents.

Our oldest daughter was very academic and any curriculum we tried worked for her. But our second child, Drew, was not so academically inclined. His idea of a good school day was whittling away his pencil in the electric pencil sharpener until it was nothing but a stub with an eraser.

Yet, when he was 14, he decided that his dad needed to join us on our farm instead of driving an hour to work and back each day. So he started looking for ways to replace his dad's income.

He tried raising farm animals, raised bed gardening and investing in the stock market but had little success with each. Eventually, however, he discovered eBay and sold everything in our basement.

Then he learned how to invest in real estate and created a system for selling houses on eBay. He sold over 70 houses on eBay, 12 in one auction, and created a course for selling houses on eBay when not many investors knew how to use the internet.

It worked. He replaced his dad's income in just 3 years. Today, he is married with 7 children and owns his own business.

If you have lost hope in one of your young people because he or she is not academic, realize that most visionaries are not. Accept each child for who they are and realize they may be smarter than you think. They just need a reason to apply themselves. And when they find it, get out of the way.

This is a great example of how our children are uniquely formed and created for purposes we sometimes cannot imagine! Great article! Thank you for inspiring parents to launch ordinary children for extraordinary future purposes!
