It's That Special Time of Year Again!! Update Post!!

I thought it would be nice to put a post together to show the progress of the seedlings we have started. It is snowing hard outside today, 25cm, so anything to do with seedlings and gardening is welcome right now to take my mind off blowing snow. Here are some pictures of the progress!!

The peppers that we started on New Years Day

Here is the tray of tomatoes that were started about 2 weeks ago. I am happy to report that the seeds @karenfoster sent us in the seed exchange are sprouted and looking good, and have a 100% germination rate!!

The tray on the right is some flowers we are trying to grow. They are some notoriously difficult to grow varieties. I am going to make a post on that later.

Here is the surprise garlic that was sprouting in the fridge. To the left of the garlic is parsley, orageno, sage, and basil. The little cup in between the tray and the pots is apple cider vinegar with a drop of dish soap in it. We are catching the small black aphid bugs that like to hang around the seedlings.

This tray is an experiment. We are trying to grow nasturtiums and sweat peas by simply putting the seed into the dirt. No soaking and keeping in a dark place for 3-5 days, just straight dry seed into dirt. So far all 6 sweet peas came up no problem. 1 of the 12 nasturtiums has sprouted... haven't given up yet, but if it doesn't happen soon we will have to go back to the soaking method.

2 weeks ago we picked up 4 grow lights for the seedlings. You can see the setup I made out of EMT conduit to hold the lights up above the table. The pepper table also has 2 lights held up by the same EMT conduit setup.

In other news I Purchased a new Nikon P900 Camera! I am learning how to use it still as it has only been a week. The seedling pictures were shot in the auto-focus mode. I am honing my skill using the manual focus mode so I can get better quality pictures. Please enjoy these practice pictures I have been taking of the moon. The moon is a great target cause i really get to manipulate the shutter speed and aperture and get a feel for how they work.
