Shopping at Walmart

It seems when I am at Walmart people like to talk to me about what I buy but is never about food I purchase. It is always about the other Items I purchase.

I seem to get questions about the gardening or canning items at Walmart. Well at Christmas time this year I received a bunch of seeds and needed to get more potting soil.

Yes, I pay more to buy the organic potting soil. But I think it is worth it in the long run. I don't add anything not natural to the soil. I do add egg shells and coffee grounds to my potting soil. I am tring to grow the healthest vegetables at my apartment that I can.

Well I was asked why I was buying the more expensive organic soil instead of the cheaper potting soil. My answer was I am tring to grow the best vegetables in containers that I can. I don't have to worry about what is in the other potting soil. I already know what is in this potting soil.

Alot of potting soils has things added to them that I don't want added to the food I am growing. There are potting soils with added chemical fertilizers added to them and I am tring to grow them as natural as I can.

Most people don't realize the soil they grow their plants in matter. I think it does matter I do not want unnatural fertilizer in the food I am growing.

I ended up helping the lady asking about the potting soil I was using to find the potting soil I purchased. We also talked about starting seeds for her own apartment.

When I am asked about the items I buy I give them a honest answer and answer any other questions they have.

I always tell them to check out steemit , That there is a lot of good information that can be helpful on here.

How often do you do this? I've heard so much about it and want to start adding shells and grounds to my garden too, but am unsure of a schedule.

I mix it into my potting soil before I plant and about once a month after that. You just need about a tablespoon of coffee grounds for each plant. I am checking out the benifits of adding banana peels to the soil and will let you know how that works.

Good to know! I generally throw my eggshells and coffee grounds into my chicken food bucket. I may need to set some aside and try this! Thanks!

your welcome

We have a gardening friend here who says to add egg shells, coffee and banana peels to the soil. She said to just put the peels on the ground. I wish I had a WM here. ;)

thanks for the information @apanamamama

I buy the organic stuff too. A a big bag of chicken manure. Chicken droppings are great for growing plants. I crush up eggshells and throw them on top of the soil. Sharp shells deter my cats from sleeping in the pots.
