All of the chicks' voices have changed from peeps to clucks. Almost 4 months old, they are feisty and are practicing adult heirarchy behaviors like flaring their neck feathers.

Wildflower and Honeysuckle Rose are very friendly and curious.

We lost one Jersey Giant during a housesitting incident, but Somnus and Kali are thriving.

Somnus is the biggest, she is close to the same size as our adult Americaunas. Her iridescent plumage is the softest I've ever petted. The breed forums were right about Jerseys having big, beautiful eyes, too.
Wishing you love, safety, and peace during the storm.

As always, I upvote every meaningful comment :)
Your girls are so beautiful!! How many do you have altogether? Sorry to hear about the housesitting accident - that must have been sad all around. Your Americaunas remind me of crows! - they are so black and still svelte :)
Hi, thanks @jaymorebeet :) Actually, the black ones are the Jersey Giant pullets. The Americaunas didn't make an appearance in this shoot, hehe. They are shades of golden brown. All together, we have nine: 4 adult Americaunas; pullets are 2 Jersey G's, and 3 Buff Orpingtons.
I really enjoyed your epic chicken coming of age story! Thanks for checking out my post <3
Speaking of crows, please have a look at my raven photos i posted yesterday if you like
Woah what a coincidence that you posted on ravens yesterday!! I'm going now to check it out! Congrats on all 9 of your chickies! I'd love to have more but we have a small lot and i think 3 or (maybe) 4 is the most we could handle.
I kinda think my hubby would agree that 4 is enough, lol, but we let the older biddies hang out as pets after their egg production goes down. This year, I have a mania for having as many birds as I can get away with! I wish I could have something really off the wall like a pair of pheasants.
Teenage chickens are funny. Their personality is really coming out. We have a bunch of teenage boys right now and they like to fight. A lot!!
Good thing that our big rooster keeps them in line!
Sounds like a mob ready for the cook pot ;)
Yes, they are pretty soon. Just have to find the time to help them get there :)
The perils of pubescent poultry!
Very good and informative, I have appreciate your article and the clarty of your photos They are really magnificent, Upvoted
Those are some cute chickens!! :)
@creationofcare Great day I value all the info and hard work thank you :).
Watching them grow and find their place in the flock is an amazing experience that makes raising chickens all the more fun..
Right on, @chingpherd! They are such sweet individuals.
We've had such wonderful experiences with our Jersey Giants. Our rooster, Mr. Magic is so sneaky. As big as he is you'd think he'd be visible at all times. Not so. He truly earned his name. He hides under brush or in the trees and stands watch after his morning visit to see all the ladies. Every time I swear he's gone, presto, he re-appears.
I've come to appreciate Mr. Magic's odd ways. He is one of the best roosters we've ever had when it come to warning and protecting the hens. He will spot a hawk and alert long before any of the others. A neighbors cat tried to climb into the run one time and Mr. Magic sprang into action without a moments hesitation. He sent that cat packing in a hurry.
Mr. Magic sounds like a magnificent knight in shining plumage! If we ever do get ourselves a rooster, I am convinced a Jersey Giant would be the best. Thanks so much for sharing Mr. Magic's feats.
These are the scariest creatures ever @creationofcare. Not just classified under ornithophobia but chickens get there own subgroup. Alektorophobia.

And why is it when you google a name of a phobia the scariest image comes up?
OMG!
This is my husbands post Girl Before Chicken.

This one has some funny photos too. Not funny at the time. https://steemit.com/drawing/@girlbeforemirror/chicken-challenge-i-did-it
So proud of you! I like to say, there are as many ways to be brave as there are fears. You did it!
I am afraid of heights...every baby step of courage is worth it.
Much love, lovely lady!
That is seriously a throwback to the Terror Bird our ancestors had to deal with!
I can understand how they could be creepy with their dinosaur feet and alien wattles and combs.
Thanks for the links!
